A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Source for hard-to-find items.

Steve

GS Whisperer
This might not belong in the Tech Section, but I don't know where else to post it, and it's sorta tech-related anyway, so...

After years of frustration, I have finally found a source for all those hard-to-find items that belong in EVERY garage:

Muffler bearings

Synthetic blinker fluid

Elbow grease

Flux capacitor

Kuhneutson valves

Left-handed metric screwdrivers

and much more.

Happy shopping.

Dang it! They're sold out of the Synthetic Blinker Fluid! Now where will I find it?

Thanks for getting my hopes up! Too bad they didn't have a replacement clock face for my timing gun, that thing never has the right time.......

That flux capacitor is a little too expensive for me. Hopefully I can find a used one cheap on eBay!

Well, Tomm, you are in luck. They don't appear to be used, but they are on eBay. 8-[

Capacitor 1 Apparently authentic. Have to act quick on this one, it ends today (Sunday) at 17:10 PDT. (Buy it Now for only $1400)

Capacitor 2 A German knock-off. You have more time on this one, it ends Friday at 10:04 PDT. (Buy it Now for only $200)

Those are great deals. Need to get my bids in. Never hurts to have a spare. Now if I can just figure out to hook it up. Let's see. Connect the red wire to the . . . no that's not right. Maybe the blue wire . . . no, that's not right either . . . maybe it replaces the R&R . . . hmmm . . . it does have 3 wires . . . You wouldn't happen to have a wiring diagram, would you???

It wouldn't work unless you've re-wound your stator to a Delta Phase configuration....and even then unless you're running pods you won't have a place to route the plasma vent. And remember, these things have to be calibrated by a qualified technician every 2.5 light years........

I didn't know we had rocket scientists on this sight!
Don't they have their own site? :-D

I swear, between this thread and the "I thought I'd ask one more time..." thread, I'd say we've been painting our bikes without the proper ventilation.......

As far as the rocket scientist sites, which would you rather do: launch a plastic tube up in the air and say "ooooohhhhh" or throw your leg over a two-wheeled rocket and launch it all over town? It's a lot more fun here.

Hey, this isn't much more insanity than my brother looking for a sportbike frame to put his 90HP turbine engine in so he can build his own Y2K bike. And considering he's an aircraft mechanic, he'll probably do it, too. I have a hard enough time keeping up with his Valkyrie!

I think I probably could have dealt with rewiring the stator, but I forgot all about that plasma vent. You're right. Definite showstopper. Besides trying to find a qualified technician out here in the wilds of New Hampshire would be pretty tough. Now if I lived in southern California . . .

Thanks again to this site for all the wonderful advice and saving me a lot of money, not to mention messing up my bike just before the fall foliage season. My bike probably wouldn't have known what to do with 1.21 gigawatts of electricity anyway.

Now about that turbine engine . . .

It's actually a timed-out (exceeded it's rated flight time) aircraft engine. Still works great, just not legal to put back in the aircraft. Apparently it's small enough to put in a bike frame, with mods. Plus, it's a heck of a lot lighter than our GS engines. He's estimating the entire dry weight minus rider would be right around 300lbs. Can you say really, really fast?

My understanding was that gas turbines have great power to weight but the big problem was that the spoolup and spooldown times are bad for cars and bikes ... as in LOTS of throttle lag.
Gearing it may be a challenge too.

OOPs, forgot to ask, whats it from, an APU or something, 90 hp seems REALLY small.

Ummm........

I don't really know. We don't get together much, and this was something he mentioned about a year ago. I can't even tell the difference between a Piper and a Cessna. He owns a FBO in Angleton, and he's always got a different toy to play with, so there's no telling what that engine came from. But hey, the Y2K bike's working (just ask Jay Leno) although that scene from Torque was pure BS. I don't know exactly how he's planning on building the bike, but next time I talk to him I'll try to get more details (such as what the engine came from) and try to talk him into taking some pics.

I know he did help a buddy build an airboat (those "swamp buggies" so popular in Louisiana) using a helicopter tail rotor. You can adjust the pitch for variable speed and even reverse. I wonder if he ever came up with a motor for that 24' pontoon boat he has........
