    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

sourcing a new/newer wiring harness for GS450t

ok, so i dropped off my bike to my mechanic hoping to resolve an issue with the dim headlight, constantly activated brake light, and turn signals that work intermittently. after two days he has not been able to get them to work as they should reliably. he suggested finding a new wiring harness. now im sure no one has new OEM wiring harnesses still lying around or anyone is making them. any alternatives? it would be a real bummer if this otherwise great bike was put out of commission because of some damn blinkers. any ideas? i'd be willing to buy a used one off ebay maybe as a last resort, but im looking for a possibly more confident option.

also i see someone here is parting out what looks to be a good condition 81 gs450 e, would the wiring harness be the same?

also i found these guys over at sparck moto over at Do the Ton. harness costs $250+ (ouch). they have an order form to select options and what not. anyone knowledgable wanna take a look at it and give me any input as to best options/necessities for this bike or any special info i should pass along. since this is kinda costly, im still completely open to other alternatives

I think you need a new mechanic instead of a new wiring harness. You really need to start digging into the problem yourself instead of throwing money away and learn a little along the way. All the electrical contact points on an old bike are suspect. Grounds, harness plugs, bullet connectors, switches and fuse boxes. Have you looked at the headlight plug or any other plugs or connectors on the bike? You can tell a lot from a visual inspection. Discoloration or obvious signs of heat are a sure sign of a problem. Are any plugs noticeably warmer than the wire going into them with the bike running? Is any wire discolored or getting brittle going into a plug or connector? All these connection points need to be cleaned with a good contact cleaner and coated in dielectric grease and replaced if necessary. Grounds especially need attention. These are all things you can do without knowing anything about the electrical system that may point out the problem to you or inadvertently fix a lot of problems. Then you can post your findings and ask for guidance from there. In the process you start getting to know your bike.
