    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Updated Kawasaki coils w/7mm copper core wire and NGK plug caps from Z1. Wire is $.99/ft and caps are $2.24/each.

What are those kawi coils from? I've been reading that you need to use 2 different caps?

That is for the pair, what Z1 shows in the picture is what you get.
 
If your stock ignition is good, no need to upgrade. As long as you're getting the spark signal and have good spark energy with your coils/wires then save your money for now. I got the Dyna-S when my ignitor croaked. There's no telling if this will ever happen to you. Since I had plenty to spend on other maintenance stuff, I would have held off.

On the other hand, the Dyna ignition would eliminate a potential problem. Maybe start a couple polls: one for who's on stock ignition vs. Dyna and another for how many would upgrade if their stock stuff is functioning okay.
 
Ah, a poll -- good idea!

Going to check spark energy when I get the new coils and wires on the bike hopefully this weekend. Since the bike was running strong before the wires crumbled on me last week, I'm assuming the stock ignition is ok for now.

How did you know that your ignitor was bad?
 
The bike was idling perfectly then just quit. I had zero spark, all four. I verified that my wiring was good from signal generator to ignitor, then to coils. Signal generator was within specified resistance so I narrowed the problem down to the ignitor.
 
Oooook... So I started digging into the Dyna Coil project tonight.

My question is this -

The Dyna instructions say that the polarity doesn't matter on each coil. I have the wires from the harness that I disconnected from the stock coils marked 4,3,2,1 (looking from the airbox forward). The wires coming from the stock coils are marked 1, 4 and 2, 3 (also looking forward from the air box). When I install the green Dynas, which coils are connected to which cylinders?

So i'm assuming that if I connect wires 4 and 3 to the left coil, and 2 and 1 to the right coil (looking forward on the bike), that I am on the right track? Then I would just need direction as to which cylinder to connect the plug wires to?

The polarity that doesn't matter is the primary side, meaning the small wires (positive, ground) going to the coil from the ignitor (or Dyna-S). If you know what small signal wire is for the 2,3 vs. the 1,4 then you can hook that up to either terminal on the coil. Once you do that, run the plug wires for those cylinders. It will still be 1+4 off of one coil and 2+3 on another.
 
Ok awesome thanks Missile99! From my notes the left hand side coil is for cylinder 1+4 and the right hand side coil is for 2+3.

Upon further reading, I'm looking into doing the coil relay mod while I have everything apart.. Good idea?
 
Polarity of 12V+ and module trigger does not matter on the individual coil, but the white wire is for 1-4 and black 2-3. The coil relay mod is an excellent idea. Your bike does have a mechanical advance doesn't it.

You can have the 1+4 coil on the right side if you want, but OldVet66 gave you the correct color wires to hook them up properly if you didn't have them identified.

Coil relay mod is a good idea if you need to gain some voltage. I did. Carry a spare relay with you if you go that route.
 
Thank you all for the words of wisdom !

After a few long shakedown runs with the new coils, I must say-- WOW!! Such a huge difference in the bike overall. Way easier starts, great idle and no need to warm the bike up for 5 minutes before riding, snappy throttle response, cleaner sounding all around, and definitely an increase in power all the way up the revs.

Grinning ear to ear the entire ride a plus :D Highly recommend these Green Dyna Coils for anyone looking to breathe a little life into their bike.
