DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Stage 3 jet kit, is it neccessary or can I forego the cost

What exactly is in a stage 3 kit? I see a drill bit, jets, needles and I know what those are for, but what is the purpose of the one screw? and where do those springs go? I unfortunately haven't disassembled my carbs yet, and I have drill bits and can get jets and needles if my needles need replacing for less than a jet kit. I'd like to forego the expense of the kit and just drill the right sized hole (in my slides if I remember correctly) insert the same size jets that would come in the kit, and raise the needles, but again, I don't know where the springs go or what the 1 screw is for  Thank you,

I think the screw is a tool for removing a cap over the mixture screws. The springs go on top of the slides and help in throttle response. My kit also came with an air jet adjuster (it's a little brass fitting that gets glued into your air jet). My kit didn't actually come with the springs. One of the biggest things is having adjustable needles, and the fact that they have done most of the leg work for you.

I have pods and 4into1 V&H, so I have the performance mods that would require a jet kit. The only jet kit I could find was 114, so I'll check that link. 45 is pretty good. I know I can get 4 mains for 6 bucks, I haven't checked on needle prices, if the stock needles are not adjustible (are they adjustible?) I also already have titanium drill bits so all I'd relly need is maybe the springs, jets and possibly needles. Thank you, ~Ben

I was told to use a particular size washer on my 400s needles so that I could raise them. This was due to them being factory parts without notches.

Part of what you are paying for is the correct needles with the correct taper(to replace the stock needles) , the correct jets, small parts and specific instructions for installation/ modification, and there R&D costs. The kits are well worth the money they cost

well, what I have is a 78 gs 750 with a 79 gs1000 engine installed, so the carbs are 750 carbs and the engine is 1000. I thought they may have used a 28mm carb on the 750, but I may be incorrect, I know from posts here they used a 26 mm carb on the 1000, so there could be a discrepancy between the jet kit and what is actually best for my bike.

that works well Steve, it can make for finer tuning But the range is limited. I use tiny washers.
