    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

O.K. I received coils today for my GS650 and installed them with new plugs. There is ample power turning the starter and the engine is turning over. There is fuel in the carb bowls and no matter what even with starter fluid it wont turn. Spark is happening on all four, compression is at 120 across the board. Why won't it start?? I did get it to cough a few times.
 
- Airbox on, and airtight?
- Petcock on prime?
- Choke on?
- Coils to proper cylinder #?

Hang in there, we'll find it.
 
So... If you're on top of the bike and looking at the coils the left coil operates coils 1&3 and the Right coil operates 2&4. right? The airbox is good. Petcock on prime check and choke is at full.
 
Please check but i'm pretty sure that the left coil (sat on bike) does the outer cylinders and the right coil does the inner ones??

Just a thought

I recently had poor voltage to my coils and even though there was spark it just was not enough and it was real hard to start.

Coil relay mod worked wonders. Try and hot wire the positive side of the coils to see if that helps as a check.

Yaddy is correct one coil does 1 and 4 the other 2 and 3 Just because they are on the bike in one position (L or R) does not mean you have the trigger wire on the correct coil. Double check your wiring and voltage to coils. I have just done this job. If you put dyna green 3ohm coils on your bike you have to have the correct voltage to coils in order for them to work. If you have not done coil relay mod visit BikeCliff for the tutorial and do it. I makes a world of difference. Also if you are using stock ignition verify you don't need a ballast resistor with your new coils if they are not stock GS

If i recall correctly the white primary from the ignitor is 1-4 and the black /white is 2-3. Check your schematic. The ignitor actually ground these lines.

Orange white are the battery side for both coils..

My coils are off a stock GS. After removing the Battery box and looking at the R/R under the airbox the ground wires looked as if they were chewed but still intact. it got dark on me so I'll fix that in the AM and get back to you. Thanks for all the help so far! Oh and I had the coils on correctly after all.
 
If it still does not start once you get your plug wires straightened out, adjust the valves.

Poor cold starting is a classic symptom of tight valves.
