    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello all, I have an 82 gs650g that won't turn over and I can't figure out why, because it turned over last week. Here's what I did:

Decided to replace turn signals, guy at a local shop told me I could use a set of running lights as long as they have two wires coming out. Bought 'em, put them on, checked and cleaned all of the connections in the headlight bucket closed it up and tried to start the bike. Starter relay clicks but that's it.
Could using running lights instead of turn signals cause this, or did I maybe bump a connection loose when putting my headlight back together?

Also, when ignition is on, no lights from turn signals, when I activate them with the l/r switch, they just come on and stay on.

The guy at the bike shop was wrong. If you have three wires you have running lights. If you're using the bike's black/white wire thinking it's a hot wire it's not, it's a ground. You can still use the same signals. Just hook the black/white wire to what is probably a black wire on the signals. Then hook up your bikes signal wire up to the wire that gives the brightest light from the signal.
 
No start is probably a blown fuse from the turn signal wiring being wrong.
 
Thanks to both of you for your replies. I do have the black/white running as grounds, and the lights come on when I use the turn signal switch, they just don't blink. Any other thoughts on why the relay just clicks and the bike won't turn over?

You may need a new flasher unit. The cheap ones they sell at auto parts stores work just fine. Try arcing a piece of heavy gauge wire across the two large posts on the starter relay. If the starter spins then the relay is the problem. If the starter drags or doesn't spin then the starter is the problem. You'll have either worn out brushes and dirty commutator or possibly just a dirty commutator. Make sure the connections on the starter relay are clean and solid and make sure you have a good ground on the engine.
