Does anyone know what size o-ring is used for where the starter motor goes through the hole in the crankcase? I have been searching around the forums but cant seem to find any measurements. I have a small leak from it and would like to replace it the next time i have the oil drained.

You don't need to drain the oil to take the stator cover off. Though you may need a new gasket if yours tears when you take the cover off. You just need to get the bike on the center stand, then prop the left center stand foot on a 2x4. A helper is helpful when leaning the bike like this so as not to drop it. see pic. You'll loose only a few drops of oil, it any.

Not sure of the oring size, the part number may reveal the size (someone else may know). 09280-24001

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that oring goes in from the starter motor side, and not from the outside. Getting the starter motor out usually means removing the carbs first. It's a tight fit. Are you really getting oil coming through there from inside the stator cover?

It seems it would be the o-ring with the part number 09280-24001, i should be able to replace it just by pulling the starter motor out, not even needing to take off the stator cover right. The reason im looking for the o-ring size is because i would like to pick it up locally so i dont have to pay insane shipping for such a small and cheap part. And yes im pretty sure thats where its coming from, the surface under the starter motor where it goes through the crankcase is slightly wet with oil and its running towards the mystery hole and draining there. That said its not a significant leak, but after a decent ride the bolt under the drain hole will be a little wet, and a small amount of oil will be starting to collect at the very bottom of the statorcover.

oh again what model?

Mrlimeedk. " i should be able to replace it just by pulling the starter motor out, not even needing to take off the stator cover right." I believe this correct. I can make sure when I go home. I have an identical engine sitting on the floor with the starter motor already out. If you don't have it straightened out by then.

Yea its a gs750e from 81, i have already been looking at part numbers myself aswell, but unfortunately it does not seem like the size is given there.

holy crap I just pretended I was from skagen and they want 17 cad to ship a part they charge about 3 dollars for.
Wow
anyhow partszilla has extracteed information from whatever database is used by inumerable online vendors.

I can believe an ID of 24.5 but od of 3 is not plausible
unless its 3mm cross section of the o-ring

I assume this is a daily driver and removal of the starter to extract the part will result in excess downtime

Exactly getting the part shipped is super expensive :D, and yea i use it daily so i would prefer having the part ready, so i dont have to park it for several days, other than that i also find measuring old o rings like that to be somewhat imprecise since they have been squashed, and also because getting exact measurements on o rings just generally is very hard.

it would make sense if the 3mm's is the cross section, so perhaps i will just get a couple o rings around the 24.5mm size and one of them must fit :D

And I failed to see that you're in Denmark. Then gave you a site in the US. I think a lot of Europeans use this site for OEM stuff if you can't find an oring locally.
https://www.cmsnl.com/

But yeah, I'd try to find locally, a couple of different thicknesses w/ ID 24.5 and see what fits.

I have used cmsnl and its rather good, but the shipping is still pretty dang high, but yea i will get a couple of different sizes around that ID and hopefully one of them will fit. Thanks for the wise words guys, much appreciated

UPDATE TIME!!!
I ended up ordering a 24,5x3 o-ring all the way from germany because i couldnt find a single retailer in denmark to carry that size. Then i had a load of trouble with shipping and stuff, making it take super long to arrive. But yesterday it finally arrived and today i got it changed. I just came back from a long ride and everything looks dry, will take another look in a couple of hours to see if anything has appeared! And once again thanks for going through all that trouble just to help me figure out what size o-ring was needed! :D
