i searched old threads on this subject but couldnt find an exact answer.my 1980 gs 1000glt has the following problem:If it is cold, say below 32 degrees the bike will hardly turn over, the battery sounds like it is dead.Once the temp warms up to our usual 75 degrees like it is now, then the bike might give me a few solenoid clicks before starting, then crank slow, then start. After the first start of the day the bike wont do this again. But lately it ran the battery down so much trying to get it to crank i figure the starter is done.it has 33,000 miles on the bike, the battery is almost new.I am guessing take the starter out, cean it up,replace the brushes, emery cloth the thingamajig the brushes rub against and it will be fixed?
1.Where do you buy brushes?part numbers anyone?
2.I have a electex stator that was put on about 1 year ago.
Am i on the right track?
Thanks for any input.ron
