    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I first want to thank everyone for the info in my other thread. I will not forget any of it when I reassemble my carbs. What I have is a stock 78 GS1000 engine, a period Bassani 4:1 exhaust and stock air box. I have concluded that with all the time spent installing and removing the carbs I am going to step up to pods of some kind. If any one out there can get me close to jetting requirements that would be great. I originally posted a thread about my #4 carb dripping out the overflow tube. I have changed out floats, float needles, carb bowls, checked the float height multiple times and I still cannot get the carb to stop dripping. I am starting over. My first carb body is soaking right now. I would like to add that I purchased 4 K&L carb kits and installed them the first time around. I just recently noticed that the float needle seats are different sizes. The kits are stamped 2.0 and the ones I replaced are stamped 2.3. The 2.3 has a larger orifice. Can anyone tell me which one I need.
 
You need the stock items.

Do yourself (and your bike) a big favor. Dig through the trash to find all your original parts that you took out to put the K&L kits in. Remove all the K&L crap, put the stock stuff back in.

Of course, if you are going to go to pods, you will add some other frustrations with the jetting. Get DynoJet or Mikuni items, not K&L.

When you get your pods, splurge. Get K&N, APE or UNI pods. They are all top-notch quality and made to be cleaned and re-used. Most of the other stuff available is much cheaper and disposable.

I have all the parts. I know I will have to go bigger on the main jet. Can you get me in the ball park on what size. I would rather just buy jets than the whole kit. I read a sheet on bikecliffs page from Vance and Hines I think and they recommended 117.5 or 120 for their header. Most of the headers should be about the same don't you think
 
If you are going with a 4-1 pipe and pods, I would recommend a Dynojet 3304 stage 3 jet kit.
 
Ok I soaked all the carb bodies and small parts again. I ordered a set of O-rings from Robert Barr on bikecliffs page and a K&N filter for the air box and some 107.5 and 110 jets. While the parts are shipping I will install the float needles and adjust the float height. I'm shooting for a healthy stage 1. Do I need to raise the main needle or can I leave it in the middle?

Received my o-ring set yesterday. Fast shipping and well worth the money. Includes detailed instructions and identification. I have a stock gs1000, a Bassani 4:1 header, and a K&N high flow filter to replace the stock filter inside the stock air box. Does anyone have an opinion about raising the main needle while I have it apart.
 
On my 78 GS1000E I am running 117.5's with a stock airbox, K&N filter w/o cover and dual Leo Vince Exhaust Cans on stock head pipes and the jetting seams to be spot on. Bike runs strong through out . no surging or flat spots, pulls hard to 9500
 
That sounds like a big jump from stock 95's. I have 110's coming in the mail. Did you raise the main needle at all. Right now my clips are in the center position.
