    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS Resources Rocks-- I've never seen a group work so hard to help other people solve problems. I like being part (a new part) of this group.

My bike is a '77 GS550 that was my Dad's. It was resurrected from the dead this year with about 9,500 miles on it. Most everything rubber and some things that aren't have been replaced. I've rebuilt the carbs, adjusted the valves, etc. Airbox and exhaust are bone stock.

The bike runs really well, but when starting it warm, I have to give it a little throttle to get it to start. It will crank over strongly and practically start to idle but it won't actually start. When it does start, it idles around 1,200 rpm.

Is this a problem with the air mixture or what? I just can't figure out what it could be.
 
It sounds like youre just a touch lean on the idle circuits. Easiest thing to try is to turn the airscrews in about 1/2 turn. See if that helps. Since you have a 77 model (VM carbs), if the airscrews dont fix it, turn the pilot fuel screws out about 1/4 turn.

I must ask, have you replaced the boots from the carbs to the heads and the orings? sync'd the carbs yet?

And the clamps that go on the boots...They may need replacing as well.
 
Everything - boots, clamps and o-rings have been replaced. I don't have a problem with a hanging idle or anything else that would indicate an intake leak.

I've synched the carbs, too. The bike really does run great. I probably just went too far with the air mixture adjustments and do have it too lean. I'll let you know what happens after I get it adjusted.
