    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I ordered new points as the ones on the bike were pretty worn, especially the part that makes contact with the cam lobe, it is worn uneven. Anyways, for the life of me, I cannot find the timing mark on the engine case. I can't tell from the picture in the online PDF manual, just where it is located. My eyes are not the greatest, so if someone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. :D
 
There is a round cutout in the points backing plate and the mark is just behind the plate as visible though that hole.

That's funny, mine does not have anything there. The part where you have the yellow mark, is it flush with the advancer, cause its not on mine. Oh well, at least I know where the mark should be, on the left side of the mounting screw. :D

There is a tin screw-on plate behind the points plate where Ed has shown the yellow mark. It is possible to remove this tin plate. If I was you I would remove the steel points plate (3 screws) and see if the other plate is behind it. If not then you need to obtain one.

No, that is missing. No wonder. I thought maybe my eyes were worse than what they are. I see, the mark is on that plate then. Well it looks like it is about 2mm in on the left side of that screw.

I can get that part for $4 from Bikebandit. I think I am going to try to eyeball it in first though.
 
Grant it, the points did need to be replaced, but the biggest problem I believe I had was with the connectors under the seat for the coils that go down to the points. This connection was black taped up, so I didn't look at this before. I took off the black tape, and one of the connections was just barely making contact. I found this out when I was cranking over the motor with the ignition cover off, and didn't see spark on one of the point sets. I got the meter out, and sure enough there wasn't any voltage to this point set. I think this has been my problem from the get go. I don't think I needed new coils, or the relay mod for that matter. This thing might run like a top now. Can't wait to get the points. :clap:
 
Good feeling isn't it when you find the source of your problem. I would pick up the back plate that is missing. It's only tin and shouldn't cost too much. About $5 new I think from Suzuki.
The actual timing mark is on the recessed part directly under the top hole on the tin plate. A bit hard to see in the pic. It is recessed to be level with the advance/retard unit that the other timing marks are on. So it would be a bit hard to make one yourself.
