From reading past posts I gather that there is about half a cup of oil in the stator case when at rest. I am working on a '84 750 ESE but the query would cover many models. How does the oil get in and out of the case ?
Page 4-23 of the manual shows a schematic of the oil flow which is so good that I wish that I had done it myself ! but I cannot find how the oil gets into the stator case - the only candidate is "Starter clutch bearing" ?
Page 4-24 is a beautiful cutaway drawing of the engine with arrows and even droplets flying around but due to the perspective the l/h side is not shown.
Does the case drain directly to the crankcase without any kind of pressure control mechanism ?
If anyone would spare a moment to explain I would be grateful,
Thanks, Tiny

What book are you using? I just looked through all three manuals I have here for our 850s (Suzuki, Clymer, Haynes) and did not see any oil flow shcematics, so I pulled the cover off my son's bike. Yeah, it was going to get taken off anyway, to polish it, just wasn't planning on doing it now.

Still not sure how the oil gets there. I seem to remember seeing a bike some time in the past that had a jet that sprayed oil on the stator, but I can't find it on this bike. However, for the return, if you look below the rotor, you will see that it is open to the crankcase, so return flow is no problem.

I once had a mechanic tell me that the oil pump on a GS just caused a $hit storm in the engine, and that's how everything gets lubed up. $hit storm.

Manual etc

Manual etc

I am using Service Manual 1983-1985 Suzuki GS700/750. 99500-37022-03E.

Removed the cover and as you say there is a large hole down in the r/h corner (only right angle on the cover) which is large enough to get some splash feed from the crankcase, if that is what it leads to.

With a bit of clearer thinking and ignoring my 2 stroke impulses (Boom boom!), there is probably no pumping action from the crankcase as the 4 pistons would keep the volume steady ?

in the stator papers it mentions the stator receiving some oil splash to cool the stator from over heating. i bet it's splash from the bottom hole.

My 81 750 when on the center stand only drains about 1/8 cup of oil out BUT if I leave it on the side stand and loosen the cover I get about 1 QT of oil. There is a hole that allows gravity to flow the oil back and forth but as far as a "pressurized spray"? Don't know. It makes sense to me with the stator/rotor soaking in a quart of oil every time I park it that would lube things quite well so when it starts running the rotor would fling oil all over the place in there. I also assume some of the pumped oil to the valve train will drain back to there by gravity?

Hope these thoughts help your quest.
