    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Good Morning, I am a new member here and have a new project that I need a little advice on. I have a 1978 GS1000 that needs a fair amount of work. It didn't come with throttle cables but does have a grip from an 1100 as well as many other 110 parts. I received my new cables yesterday and did my best to install them without having seen how they were routed etc. I believe they are now as intended. The length and fit seem to be good but there is no snap back at all. In fact I have to twist back to return to idle. The new cables were free and correctly functioning before installation and there is plenty of strength in the carb springs. Is there a lube for the throttle? Should it not be lubed?
 
Is there a little bit of slack in both cables? The throttle should twist just a little bit before anything happens? Too tight will make them stick.
 
Let me note that with the control switch top removed, it will snap back. Is it possible the new cable nuts are slightly too big and are binding inside the housing? Seems to be the only place where it hangs up.
 
They are actually not quite snugged up yet. I didn't get to adjusting them fully yet because of the binding.
 
something is not installed correctly....perhaps the routing on the throttle end, is the wire in the grove as it should be, the only lube typically used is on the wire on the inside of the cable, nothing around the grip or throttle body itself. did you take up the slack of the inner wire at the carb end ?

sounds like your binding somewhere on the grip/throttle tube, now as I read your other comments

What cable nuts?
 
unscrew the cables slightly from the housing just enough so the throttle doesn't bind anymore,before nipping up the lock nuts.
 
Thanks for the welcome. By nuts I mean cable ends. Everything works fine until I place the top of the control back on the throttle housing. The cables seem to be in their proper slots and will work and snap back. Once I put the top of the housing back on, then it binds.

he just cant quite get his paws right on the keyboard yet, but he is getting better!

The switch body is binding, so take and wrap the bars with a few layers of masking tape and reinstall the swtich over it. This will space the 2 halves just a bit. Trim the tape off the bars around the switch housing after your done


And to Gatekeeper...the channel the throttle grip runs in inside the switch housing gets greased as well.
 
Thanks for the thread high-jinx, enjoyable. It's the cable ends. I just took the cables out and there is plenty of free play. I'm going to try and sand them down to fit a little better and a little lube inside.
