DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i have done it all. i have an 81 gs 650 and i cleaned the carbs totaly riped them apart new o rings gaskets sinked them and everything and i can not get it to cold start without spraying carb cleaner down the petcock vacuum line. what the hell did i miss. i even used the "special tool" but the only thing i can think of would be the bowls themselves. there is the hole for the long stem of the choke pickup or whatever it is that goes into the bowl and another hole in the bolw that looks like it should meet up and be able to spray through. i cant seem to get it to spray through any of the four bowls. is this sposed to be open or ment to be closed.
please help
thank you

This little hole must be open. The fuel flows from the main bowl thru this little passage to fill this other little "milk shake straw" looking place. This is where the choke or enriching fuel comes from.

Try using an air compressor to blow out the passages. Spray can carb cleaner won't do the trick all the time. I also us the carb cleaner in a bucket and soak them. Again, spray can cleaner is half-a$$ed at best. Sure, the good stuff is more expensive, but what's your time worth?

Re: still cant start it!!!!

Spraying carb cleaner down the petcock vacuum line?? That line is an air line the operates the petcock diaphram allowing fuel to flow. That doesnt make any sense to me. All that would do is induct that small amount of carb cleaner into the engine. I cant imagine you could get enough carb cleaner into the vacuum line to act as a choke. ???

What proceedure did you use to clean the carbs? An aerosol can of spray cleaner will not be of any use by itself.

I suspect your choke and idle passages are still clogged because if they were clear, (assuming float levels are set correctly) the bike would start and idle normally.

what we just found with the 750 was that useing the choke cable the choke rail would not move the inrichment valves to full travel :
once you reach under and pulled them oppen by hand it would start an work great just somthin to check

Those passages must be clear and allow the flow of gas or the bike will have a b!tch of a time starting. I used a piece of 20g wire to clean mine out, then I sprayed the carb cleaner. Man, did that make a difference.
