A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Straight pipes

Straight pipes are stupid...

Scream to every cop, "I'm going fast and I am above the law!"
They don't like that.
**** off everyone around me driving a two ton weapon.
The only thing worse than straight pipes on a bike are straight pipes on an econobox cage with a four cylinder and an automatic.

Give me a stealth exhaust any day.
Makes that new kickass Stebel horn sound louder. :-)

Agree! (not sure what a Stebel horn is though).

Loud exhausts are just plain rude and selfish. If I was Dictator of the world, every person caught with a loud exhaust would serve a good long term of community service helping others - instead of just thinking about themselves.

Thinking about getting one of these... Are they really as crazy loud as the spec would lead you to believe? Overkill?

Horns on my '82 850 are a JOKE. They are mounted up front (two of them), blocking airflow to the engine. I'm normally a straight OE kind of guy but those horns are junk!

I keep the little beeper horn on a second button for a polite little toot toot for just letting someone know I'm there before they try to hit me, have the loud horn on the original horn button powered through a relay for when someone needs to be blasted out of my way, or when they need to be punished for a feeble attempt at killing me.

Have not used the Stebel, I'm not out of other loud horns yet.
I think they are way louder than the Fiams, etc that I have.

If you clean behind the plate and adjust the stock disk horns, they are plenty loud. Straight pipes just P.O. your neighbors. Stock exhaust is great, silent power. My bike pulls straight through the entire rpm range 2500-8000. Why would you want to sacrifice half your rpm range just to sound cool? Just putting straight pipes on without jetting will quickly cook your top end.

in defense of slightly unquiet pipes i have to say that i've always used them and to date have never hit a deer. straight pipes though may be a bit much. even though they sound cool i would probably get tired of the noise myself.

Myself, two brothers and my dad all ride stock pipes. Never hit a deer.

No mufflers here. Its not even that loud. There are a lot louder bikes out there. Any V-twin with pipes is louder.

Stock exhaust is UGLY and sounds silly. You cant even tell the bike is running. Whisper quiet bikes are just not cool.

All your videos just show your bike at idle. The blue smoke adds to it. I don't mind a good sounding engine but I have no plans to open the pipe on my smoking weed wacker.

My old GS unplugged. The Harley I was running is also open so you can compare.

I understand there are many guys and gals on this website who cherish these bikes for the vintage pristineness that they hold, but some guys want to go beyond the stock(ness) of these bikes and go there own way, I have a 4 into 1 and have the exhaust cut off right after the foot peg, it sounds great, but don't blast it too loud in town. I would also agree that it is way quieter than any POTATO POTATO with aftermarket exhaust. I am thinking about a license plate that reads "BACNETR" . Anyone like? Just make sure you take the time to jet correctly.

Only smoking because It was cold outside and the bike wasnt near warm yet.

The "vintage pristineness" thing is lost on me. These are cheap throw away bikes. Might as well mod and beat on them until its time to move on.

You guys justifying your loud exhaust just because Harley's are louder are completely missing the point. Reminds me of a child that's been caught doing something wrong and then offers up the excuse that "Johnny did it too"…as if that justifies their own wrongful actions. :(

The fact so many of them are still on the road debunks the throw away bike theory. But to each his own. He's entitled to do what he wants with his bike.

Why is he entitled to damage my eardrums?

When these moronic dipschits rev their silly straightpipes in my face I give them a long earful of my Stebel.

I win.
Oh, it won't be long before exhaust valves get burned with the open header. Valve guides are already needing attention.
