Awesome! I love streetfighters and a GS is perfect for one. Keep posting pics for all of us to drool over. I love it! :)

and finally: me into trouble

That's what ALL bikes are for, isn't it? :D :D

I like that flush cap. What did you ahve to do to get it to work? Did you tank have a threaded cap to begin with?

Damn, thats a good idea. I never even thought about it, but I could basically get a new Gixxer tail section and graft it onto the back of my bike! hmm

Of course that would negate my hours of work on my current tail, but what the hell.

Just a note - the late model ('00 and up) GSXR tail sections are WIDE and do not fit the lines of the GS tank at all. The tail piece will be a good 4-5" wider than the widest part of the tank and to me that looks goofy. Your best bet is to look at either a street tracker tail piece ( http://www.omarsdtr.com/ ) or a TZ250 tail piece (I like the mid to late 90's ones myself). The TZ tails are available from a multitude of aftermarket body suppliers (try http://www.sharkskinz.com/ ).

Just my $0.02 on tail sections... :)

Tank info

Tank info

That tank was messed up when I got it. It had a huge dent on the right and the cap was missing. I just cut the tank about a 1/4 inch from the resess and welded a piece of sheet steel in there (16 ga?). I then took a hole saw and put a hole directly on top of the seam to the rear of the tank. The flush mount cap is a weld in harley I had laying around from another project, it looked to high tech for the other project. I reshaped the rear of the tank a little so I could be a little more confortable with my legs around it.

I also put a 74+ Harley petcock on it. It's chrome and it doesn't leak. The petcock + bung only cost me $30.00.

Did you cut off the framing behind the shocks or was it like that before?

BTW that tail piece is a Kawasaki item if I'm not mistaken.
looks like a kz650 ducktail.

you got the beginnings of a nice special there!

love project bikes,

great wish list,

greater personal website!

I really like how you actually went into the future to get those pics for us :)

Still building

Yes, it is a kz650 tail, I was misinformed. Funny I didn't notice, i've got 3 or 4 kz 650s laying around.

I'm waiting for my rear wheel to show, I am going to make a new swingarm. The gs1100 swingarm I have will not work with a 18/55/180 tyre. I may run a 18x4.25 front wheel, I haven't decided yet.

I need to get a 4x1 header anyone have one laying around?

NEW PICS!

NEW PICS!

Here are some pics of the bike, my forks will be here on Wed. Hopefully I'll be getting in trouble in Laughlin next week. The link is a larger image.

Did you get that 1100 swingarm to bolt right up? Would it bolt right up to a GSX750? That'd be nice to have the extra clearance for a 150-160mm tire.

It just bolted up. No spacers or anything. The frame is a 79 GS1000, I don't know if 750s are different.
