stuck intake screws?

just replaced the gaskets on the intakes tonight, and had an easy enough time of getting them out so I thought I'd share. hard to say how long it's been, but most of the bike has been in tip top shape so far, so I wasn't suprised the screws weren't breaking off.

so I've heard of, and had, a whole lot of trouble getting the inner boots' screws off with a manual impact hammer, so I tried using just the hardened steel screw tip supplied with it. usinng a good hammer, a few solid taps seemed to lodge it quite firmly in the screw, as well as loosening the metals, then it broke free easily enough with an adjustable wrench on the hardened tip!

wanted to share in case it helps, I'm sure it's been done before.

i got my 2 outer boots off, but am having trouble with the inner ones. I'm waiting to get some parafin wax, seeing as I've stripped one head, and dont want to do any more damage.

is the wax to melt into it to make it slip? give it a shot maybe, the tapping drove the tip so solidly into the screw it almost couldn't strip.

also, I replaced all the screws with stainless allen head bolts, don't feel like dealing with it again! it was cheap at the local fasteners store, and it lets you get away with doing whatever you have to to get the stuck screws out, including destroying them.

of course I can't take credit for the allen bolt idea, that one's been around a few times.

just slot the inner screws with a dremel disk and use the impact flat head bit like mentioned above.
