    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Stuck...Signals and Random Part That I Don't Know What It Is

So I have hooked up some new LED signals with a CustomLED.com flasher relay. When I have the mystery part (see pic) wired in, all signals are lit but do not flash. When I remove mystery part, the lights are not on but if I signal to the right, the signal will light but not flash.

Can anybody help and identify the mystery part?? I checked the manual, microfiche, and repair manual...nada...

Never seen that before, it might be a buzzer that buzzes while the blinkers blink?
 
What kind of airplane is this from?

Or is it from a bulldozer?

Or a ... ?

We can only assume that it's from a motorcyle, MAYBE even a Suzuki GS, but there is NO indication or hint in your post or your signature.















Now, to answer your question, that is, indeed, a buzzer/beeper that was connected to the turn signals to let you know that they were ON.










Let's do some assuming that it is a GS. Depending on the model, you will have to do some re-wiring to be able to use LED signals.
 
I did put power to this unit and it made some form of a buzz sound but I wasn't sure if it was just due to vibrations and the unit freaking out or it was indeed doing its task haha.

The bike is a 1979 Suzuki GS1000, being a GS forum, why would I post about airplanes and bulldozers haha

Any advice on the re-wiring you speak of?

My guess is its an aftermarket "flasher" that uses a bimetallic strip


Some older flashers that use bimetallic strips and LED's dont mix....
Try putting a incandescent bulb on one of the turn signals...

Reasoning:
Some flasher units use a bimetallic strip to break and remake contact..... When there isnt enough current going through the strip it cant heat the metallic strip enough to break contact thus your turn signal stays on.

The fix if thats the issue:
1) Find a product that is made to switch leds.... <--------- Most Costly
2) Leave one incandescent bulb in both sides of bike <----- Cheapest
3) Find a timer circuit <------- Lots of DIY

Well, you are rather new here, so I'll just say that it is somewhat customary to mention what your project is, or at least have it in your signature so you don't have to remember to mention it every time.

And, by the way, the posters on this forum are well-experienced in MANY fields, so there are a LOT of non-motorcycle questions posed here. I have seen threads in the past (while lurking, before I joined) that asked about occupations. Seems that we have a wide range here, from students (of all kinds), welders, doctors, lawyers, teachers, pilots (private and commercial), mechanics, writers and so on. Our collective knowledge is not limited to 35-year-old bikes.

I am not real familiar with the '79 1000. Does it have a single turn signal indicator in the instrument panel or does it have one for each side? One for each side will be a little bit easier, but the 1000 has self-cancelling turn signals, and the '79 version is a beast to bypass. You almost have to yank everything out and start from scratch. Simply changing the flasher might not work, and I am rather sure that it will defeat the self-cancel feature, if it still works.
 
I wouldnt put a dummy load on the bike, i assume you converted to led to save a couple amps on that stator .... If you have that flasher it should** work

What would help the most is if you could draw us a basic diagram of the wiring for the circuit you have in use, ill better be able to help diagnose the issue with it (dont go crazy if you have a guess that wire in the loom of 20 goes to the left blinker im sure it does lol)
 
That part was never on a '79 GS1000. The self canceling turn signal control unit on the GS1000 up to '79 was known to fail so I'm not surprised someone has been messing with the turn signals. I replaced mine with two turn signal relays, one for each direction and got so used to holding the switch manually that I actually prefer it now and never forget to turn them off because the switch is spring loaded and goes off when you let it go. LED's are fine as long as you don't mess with the headlamp or tail light unless you convert to a SERIES R/R. The old SHUNT R/R can be fooled into overcharging if expected load is reduced. It doesn't matter with a Series R/R.
