DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

suzuki gs1000st red 1980 model

G'day all, I'm in South Australia and I just picked up a basket case 1980 GS1000s in red and white, after a fairing and screen (have the brackets) and some other bits. Tank is signed: Graham Crosby F1 world champion. This bike seems to have some history, it came from a deceased estate and no one has any info there about the bike except that it was bought to use as spares, too good for that!

good on you.....sounds a little like myn. a basket case.
are you going to keep it, sell it or wreck it do you think?

Welcome to the site, Bushcreature.
Sounds like a cool find.
How about starting a new thread with some pics of your project S.

G'day met, I'm going to keep it and restore it.
Also have a GS1000G awaiting repair and another GS1000G that I have given to my son, we're going to do up the G's together.

G'day Steve, I have no idea how to put up photos and it will be a long long time before anything happens on the S apart from collecting bits.
My son and I are going to do up our GS1000G's together first.
I have just had someone reverse over my daily ride, a pristine 1986 Kawasaki GT550 and has no insurance.
Also continuing the building our new home and all that goes with that, I have no time or money to spend up on the S.

Wow, Postman Pat, that's awesome that you would have the thought to save those and be willing to pass them on to another member in need, got to love GSR.

i agree.....very gracious.
thanks pat....the money is in your account

during my travels recently, i have uncovered a blue one
that im currently looking at.

anyway for your records, the details are below,

chassis number .........gs1000-530969

engine number...........gs1000-148249

let me know what you think...

Looks like that bike may be a US import to Australia, see if it rides on the other side of the road.;)

The numbers are right in a batch that's from the USA.

Check the carbs to see if they are VM type rather than CV.

Not sure what else would identify a US 1980 ST from an Australian model.

Thanks for the numbers, always good to see members on the lookout for new bikes to add to the register.

Cheers,

David.

The blue ones had a different pin stripe on the duck tail I believe, not sure on the red ones though.

My 1000S details are :- Frame GS1000 534794 and Engine GS1000 152090 Date is November 1980.

Thanks Bushcreature, that's a pretty high number, interesting that they were still producing the "ST" model as late as November, it's also good to get a few numbers from the later batches as I have very few of them.

The highest number I have is 535172 and almost all of the bikes above 532500 are in Australia or NZ except for one in France. (John Kat's)

I'm not sure if all of those numbers were used on the ST's as I have a few blocks of numbers used for the GS1000ET's.
Most of the high 52XXXX's and the low 53XXXX's and about a thousand between 531000 to 532000 appear to be reserved for the "ET" model.

Anywho, thanks met for allowing the hijack of your thread, maybe I'll start a new thread again as the old one is long gone.

David

Hi guys!

New owner of an S here and I'd like to add my serial number to the register if it's okay.

Chassis number: GS1000501936
Engine number: GS1000106557
Year of Manufacture: 1978

I've been reading up on the build threads and I am learning so much!
Thank you all.

I know someone who has a pair of brand new stock mufflers for one of those hanging on his shed wall.
