    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Syncing the carbs, odd problem

Hey everyone,

So I made myself a manometer that is pretty good. Used gear oil in it so the fluid doesn't move around too much and have everything hooked up. Here's the thing that I don't understand. When I start the bike, it starts pulling cylinder 1 a bit more than the others, to the point where the other cylinders start going down and I have to shut the bike off or Cylinder 1 will start pulling in fluid. Is this normal? Should I crack the nut on 1 and adjust it quickly to pull it down and then keep fine tweaking everything?

try bench syncing them first, to get them in the right ballpark, then try again with the manometer

Yes, it looks like you'll have to start there so that #1 doesn't suck all your oil out of your manometer.

I would remove some of that fluid too. Fill it so that even if a bottle gets ALL of the fluid that it isn't enough to get sucked into a cylinder. All you are looking for with these homemade jobs is that you have an equal vacuum, NOT equal fluid levels. Well, I guess if you have an 82 you need slight pull on 1 and 4 right? So equal is not quite what you're after (iirc anyway, I have VM styles so equal is good for me) Still, I would drain some of that fluid to avoid the problem.
 
Ok! Benched synced the carbs. It's incredible to actually see the plates come together. Makes me feel like they're finally almost perfectly together. I got the carbs on the bike but the idle is still ~3000rpm. I turned the main screw down but it either raises it PAST 5k or stays at 3k. At this point am I just messing with the pilot screws on top of the carbs to get it down?

Here's a quick rundown of what I've done.

- New carb boots
- New Exhaust Hardware
- Bench Sync
