A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Tach Drive connector broken off

Yep, Or if its not leaking very much, check oil ~ ride bike. Be sure and get the retaining hardware for the tach adapter if yours has gone missing and inspect the tach cable for damage as well.

You do know you could post a parts wanted ad on this site. ;)

Crazy thread.

If you just go out to the bike and pull out the drive assembly like Dale suggested then you can see what you are up against.

The tach drive unit has a little tab that holds it in place. Currently, that broke off chunk is not held in place at all and could come flying out of your engine at any time dumping hot oil on your exhaust pipes. Not good.

thinking about it, you are right... that would be really bad. I will pull out the tach drive and see what is going on...

I do know that when the engine is idling the center pin is spinning... so it seem to be working on the inside..

what is the difference between the one on the 80 engine and the 81 and newer engine?

I could sell one of my used units for $25.00 but you will still need the seals and missing retainer and screw.
With the shipping for the used part and the price of the seals/parts/shipping, new would still be a better bet IMHO.
Perhaps you have a MC salvage yard near you that might sell the part cheap and then you would just have to clean it up and get the new seals. ;)

Edit: Ed is correct. I forgot that you still have #19. Just buy new and be done with it.

Just put it all together... $52.00 for 19-24. going to do that instead.

Just bought it all.. now I will wait for the delivery and get it working properly again.
