A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

tank bags - for real travel.

I put this into general as this is essential when touring ..

I bought a cheap tank bag off eBay.
Issues :
I had to cut a hole in it to take a charge cable for my GPS on phone.

Can't take a normal map folded .. I.e. a Michelin map.
I have to virtually destroy the map to fit.

My mobile overheard in the map case as acts like a lense.

I am on a tour now , is there a bag that can address these issues.
Surely if I designed with these fixed I'd be rich ?

What do you guys do as I have 1000 miles to go
And am presently stuck on holland with a mechanical.

I just bought a new tank bag as I had lost the rain cover to it over a year ago and wanted a replacement before my next trip in a couple of weeks. My old one, a Tourmaster Select 12 or 14 L (not positive which) was nice in that it had the holes you mentioned (though I never used them) and a fairly decent map window. I couldn't fit a full 8x11 sheet of paper in it but with a little folding of the sides I could see my directions. I also liked the inside pockets on the flap as it would hold my maps I didn't need to use as well as both my personal and work cell phones. Sadly, I am giving it to Charmayne for her bike since the one we had was too big for her.

I didn't spend a lot of time looking everywhere as I would much rather buy locally so I can put my hands on it and I'm glad I did. I wanted to purchase the Tourmaster Elite 14L because it had the GPS pocket which I hope to get in a year or two. However, it was too small to hold my phone with its case and the map pocket on it won't even hold a 3x5 card without cutting the edges into a hour glass shape. Inside pocket space was okay but again won't hold my phones or additional maps separated from the actual cargo area.

I ended up purchasing a Cortech Super 2.0 18L but the only nice thing about it is the size of the map pocket. I just got it last weekend and haven't had a chance to really use it yet but from the looks of it I should be able to still put an 8x11 piece of paper folded up with my directions. The inside pockets are still crap so I have to place my phones in the cargo area. I'll probably keep this one for a bit but I'm already thinking I want something different.

Does your phone , gps get very hot in that clear window ?
On bag ? Mine dies , too hot in sun.

Where and how else can you fit phone so you can see it ?

I don't carry my phone outside of the bag since I don't have anything to hold it right now but RAM has a mount for them if you really need to see it. Since that option disappeared with the bag I have, I rely on my Bluetooth headset and any written directions

I think your right written instructions on display it is but for starting and the end bits of a 300 m
Daily section I need a GPS, gets tricky. But for that it won't have time to heat up so be ok.
I am.learning the hard way 2000 mile road trips.

Also I am stuck i n Amsterdam still awaiting parts.
I am getting a new tyre fitted too and there is no way in the world I would
Ever find the shop 3 miles away without GPS. Never.

I'm in Canterbury, if you are coming back to Dover, why not swing by?

Greetings

If I come back on 3 cylondrs , the issue at present I could
I'll have to try and get the Harwich ferry from Rotterdam.
There I would need more spares.

I have another thread for the issue ! I won't repeat it , as only have mobile.
I am getting help on here.
But any help is good.
I'll look at group but not on Facebook.
