    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Testing coils with Dyna Coil HT leads

In trying to find a misfire problem, I tried testing the resistance of the coils (stock Suzuki OEM coils). Got a good read through the primary leads (4.0 & 4.1 ohms) but not reading through the HT windings. I had installed Dyna leads & caps years back & think this came up previously. I think the actual "wire" is not metal but carbon or graphite or some sort of fiber . Do I have that right? Is it not possible to actually read resistance on these leads??

Yes you should be able to read the resistance between each cap. You need to make sure your meter is on a high enough setting, like 100k if it is not an auto ranging type. If they are carbon wires it's possible that they will appear open to a meter but still spark when used, this is due to the high voltage of the secondary jumping small gaps in the graphite that the meter can not jump. In any case if a meter can not read from cap to cap it means there is a problem that needs to be corrected.

Thanks for your reply. DynaTek web site indicates a carbon element for the conducting "wire" as opposed to metal for the OEM leads. My notes show that I never got a reading, including pre-installation, with these leads tho did with the OEM leads.

Nonetheless I will call them next day or two. Bike has run about 20k since I replaced the OEM leads with these so spark is getting through.

The Stock coils are ~10k ohms on the secondary, the wires are 0 ohms, the caps are 5k ohms. With my Dyna coils I used copper wire and NGK resistor caps. The resistance allegedly keeps ignition impulse noise from confusing the ignitor.

Got a good reading. Called DynaTek & was told I should not have an open reading. Went back & with tips of the leads from multimeter again in good (?) contact still got no reading. Then I took a 6mm bolt, long enough to actually thread into the cap & stick out on each coil & then I got a good reading. So while any idiot would never have had this problem, in case you are the type of idiot that I am I would recommend using this method. I forgot already what the values were but somehweres on 30k range.
