I keep seeing mentions of testing for vacuum leaks using WD40, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, pam cooking spray, ferrets...all sorts of things. These all work fine I'm sure but don't they leave a mess all over your carbs and boots too, especially the WD40 and ferrets?
The way I learned to do it years ago from my dad was to take a propane or MAPP gas torch (like you'd use for plumbing) and slip some hose over the end so you can direct it exactly where you want. Then all you have to do is crack it open and hold it near the various points you want to check, no fuss no muss and it works great.
