A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The End of the Road for my Honda RR Kits

Jeez Cliff, your post sounds like I bought a Harley or something,

LOL!

I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you. ;)

You didn't buy a Harley, did you?

All the best to you and yours,

Cliff

As Porky Pig once said, That's All Folks.

Thank all of you for the orders, I have a few waiting on Money Orders and such to arrive next week and that should do it.

If one of those falls through, let me know. I'll pay right away.
Thanks, Greg B.

Well I never ordered one from you, but I always knew that you were just an email away if ever I needed one. That service is going to be sorely missed!

Something that has had me wondering for a while... Were all the Honda R/R's you saw made by Shindengen?

Could you describe, in general terms, how to select and test a Honda (or other) regulator, to ascertain if it is appropriate to use in GSes? It seems to me that such information would be useful enough to current and future generations of GSR members and users, to keep it up permanently, like the carb rebuilding series.

Talk about timing! I purchased a r/r just in case this past weekend and my mechanic called me up not 4 minutes ago. He hooked up the battery and had the bike running while he did a little more fiddling with the carbs when the voltage started running up past 16v! (he says he always has the battery on a monitor when he works on a bike so the can check at a glance)

So, the r/r will be getting installed this week rather than this fall as I had planned!

I'm going to do a photo shoot of the last one I modify, I've asked another member to help with creating a nice looking PDF as well. I've modified more RRs than anyone ever will and would like to share the knowledge.

Which RR to use was discussed exhaustively in another thread, I don't want to re-ignite a storm over it. I will include my personal list of bikes that I looked for RRs from, along with the models that work best and things to look out for.

Then we should host this how-to on BassCliff's site :).

Agree the three are inconclusive, and could easily have already been damaged.

I'm starting to guess that the 6th wire sense is sufficent to avoid most of the issues with bad (+) side connections. Honda's may also have better grounding and so have not needed a true differential reference sensing and simply having the plus side sense is good enough. Either that or it is a softer shunting device and absorbs more heat than a FET device for example; that puts less stress on the stators.

Or they used better diodes and a larger heatsink. Really I don't know but time tested the design and it won.

Thanks for the r/r I bought for an 81 1100e that solved the charging problems. I have since sold the bike to my friend and never had a charging problem since.

I will personaly appreciate it, as I procrastinated away the chance to get one of yours. So I'll be an early user of your user guide. Many thanks.

any opinion on me using a rr from a 81 cb 900? Eight wires. 3yellow, 2 black, 1 white, 1 red, 1 green. Is it compatable? I have an 80' 1100et. the rr is a shindengen sh296a-12.
Regardless, if you put together this rr page like others compared to the carb rebuild page, you will help so much, and save so many posts on rr problems. Thanks.

The CB900 uses a field regulated alternator and you want one for a shunt regulated alternator. As Duaneage says, that one will not work on a GS.

Thanks for offering these as long as you have, they are a great comfort from personal experience. Your effort in the R/R area is one of the things that makes the GS site special in my mind. I've only needed one for obvious reasons, but have bought two from you just in case I get another bike. Thanks again.

Duane,

Although I "rolled my own" at about the same time you came on the scene with your kits, I always appreciated the fact that your inexpensive solution was readily available to those who needed it.

My only suggestion is that you continue to provide at least a low volume of kits to those who need them, at whatever new price point is required to make it worth your while. I suspect that new price would still be much less than any other "ready-to-plug-in" alternatives.

Your contribution to the GSR community will be a lasting one (pardon the pun, hehe) either way, Pal!

Regards,
