    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The sexiest air filters there are!

When I got the bike it had Individual air filters on it. Upon further inspection I found that all the gause material is gone in the air filter(vance and hines). The PO probobly used carb cleaner or something to clean them, and it ate the material away. I had this idea about putting panti hoes over the filters, and then applying some oil over the panti hoes. I mocked it up to see how big the holes would be in the panti hoes. Remember, I'm not too familiar with panti hoes. Anyway here is a photo of the filter without them, and with them. Do you think I could pull this off? Otherwise, do they make any "socks" to put over the filters? Or, does anyone have any other advice?

Dump the pods for a stock airbox with K&N filter. I think you'll be far better off in the long run. Using a "back-woods engineered" replacement is asking for trouble. Too much restriction by the nylons=running too lean. Not enough restriction=too large of particles getting past and into the combustion chamber=potentially wearing rings/cylinders/valve stems and seals excessively.

Or, replace the pods with new pods. Then you don't have to worry about rejetting the carbs (if the PO did so when he installed them).

Before outerwear for air filters this was common practice on dirty tracks( rally cars) about 3/4 of a race we would pull them off and wow in our Datsun race cars, Never tried on a street bike, but my ATV on the dunes I did this to help shed the sand, but your Nylons look pretty dang SEXY,,,How about a leg shot...JUST KIDDING\\:D/

I have actually used a Sock on a buddies 4 wheeler, had no air filter
 
I was just testing it out with the one on it there. I pulled it over from the back of the filter to the opening, then folded it back over to rear of the filter to "double it" and then tied it off. I figured the hose clamp would hold it on in the front. Also I would be using black ones to keep them less noticable. Do you think that I should use A heavy motor oil such ase 90w? I do not have any filter recharge stuff....

I would not use gear oil on that set up. You plan on making this a permenant thing? You are not doing the engine any favors long term!

probobly a bandaid until the end of next summer...
I do have the stock air box, although I would hate to re-jet the carbs, and I like just poping the carbs off from the intake boots, and not having to take the air box off too.

Save your pantyhose $ and get some pods off eBay, they aren't that expensive, around 29-40.oo for a set.

Or I'll give you a deal on mine that I'm removing and going with the stock box...they are cheaper ones, probably a few grades better than the "Leggs" you're using:-P! Where were you a couple of months ago? A nice trade could've been had!
