78 GS100E. I have pics of yesterday and todays work. Yesterday i stripped parts off and today i prepped the frame for repainting and started engine disassembly. Sadly i dont have pics of it the day i brought it home but TURD is an accurate descrition. Tank caved in, entire front of the wire harness hacked off, wrong seat and broke seat trim, no headlight or bucket, no frt fender, no rear fender section that holds the license plate..and on and on it goes.

Thankfully between Steve, Salty Monk, and Rustybronco i have acquired just about all the major missing parts. Many thanks guys.

The tail cowl was drilled for what i assume was a rack at some point. Easy enough to repair it.

Its been beat to crap for one thing. Secondly its going to a customer in Texas and its best case policy...my policy..to replace all the seals and such to ensure there are absolutely no leaks. Besides its out so its just a few more bucks and a days work to rebuild it. Did you see how thick the carbon is on the pistons!! Gonna get new rings too. Do it right one time.

The frame is after paint stripper and a run through the car wash. I then took angle grinder with a rope wire wheel and got it all to bare metal. Just forgot to take pics of that..i will next time im at the shop

Now why did I never think to use a baking tray for anything other than baking. I have alway sused the line it up at the back of the workbench and keep fingers crossed I don't knock anything or forget it's there and dump some other important stuff on top of it.

I was shown the cupcake tin by my dad before i could even own a vehicle. I also use box flaps and poke holes in them with a screwdriver to put cover bolts and screws in, Take them out in the same pattern every time,,for instance i always go clockwise. Keeps them together for each cover and no guessing what length goes where.

It's the best (and only) user for old baking pans. I have more pans in my garage, than I have in the kitchen, lol...

DOnt use strofoam egg cartons.
ANy carb cleaner solvent will dissolve the strongroom and then it reforms on your parts as almost a plastic.

My work bench has lots of tuna cans.

ANy comments about the dents in the tank.
One looks kinda shallow and big but fairly gradual.
Other seems deeper with definite crease.

Getting a bit done this week. I ordered the engine kit, new crank seals, fork seals, and 370.00 worth of other stuff Saturday, So it wont be long till ill have a lot of stuff to do.

Wire wheel on the angle grinder makes quick work of paint.

Redman, i bought the old tank off Dale ( Rustybronco ). The original tank from Penelope. I got a good body guy that can get in there and push most of the caved in stuff out and it can then get a little filler and again be a good tank....but thats a way down the road.

One last post on this tangent: I like the disposable version of Tupperware for this kind of thing. (Glad, store brand, whatever cheap resealable tub.) They offer protection against spills and contamination, and you can stack them on the shelf to get them out of the way.

Finished painting the remainder of frame parts yesterday...today was break down engine day, degrease and paint cam cover and cam chain tensioner. Gotta get some Purple Power tomorrow and clean up the cases and get them painted. Wont be long till it starts the reassembly process. New cam chain supposed to be here next week. All parts will be cleaned and painted well in advance.

Hemostats and sand paper to clean scale between fins on head. Lots of elbow grease to clean this pig up.

I used a few of these last time I cleaned up a head. Worked pretty well, and cheap enough to be disposable. Ignore the price on these, many cheaper options if you shop around.

Today i finished up cleaning and stripping cases to raw metal and then repainted them. First ones are in the raw and then some with paint. I use VHT UNIVERSAL ALUMINUM, part number SP127. It looks amazing.

Dave needs his engine overhauled, but he's not the type to get that deep into an engine.
Maybe you or somebody here can do the overhaul?
