    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This link contains a freeware down load for a utility called PopupVanish--It seems to be working. It will sometimes block a popup that you want such as a question and answer window on ebay.. But there is an option which adds these items to a safe list--please let me know if you like it or if you are using it already then I will surely appreciate any tips or information.
Thanks.
I JUST SENT THE LINKS TO EVERYONE I EVER CONTACTED BY EMAIL

Bill, The only thing i have found with the pop up software is that when i am opening yahoo Geocities or browsing a site that uses pop ups for necessary functions, I must select "disable" while i am working those sites.

" I must select "disable" while i am working those sites"
Just left-click on the red X to dis-able it and left click on the icon to re-enable it :)

Slopoke,
Thanks for the heads up on this "anti-popup"

I've been using it for a few weeks/month now and really like it.
Simple to use, easy to install.
Not a Microsoft product!

Thanks again :D :D :D

I use the panicware system that Michael mentions. To allow a window to pop-up all you have to do is press your Control button then press the link. It will disable the pop-up stopper for as long as you hold the control button but will automaticaly start working again as soon as you release it stopping any futher pop-ups. On the same topic as this, anyone using any (free)software to stop banners.??

yep, I like this much better. Thanks Michael

I don't use anything or know of anything for the banners but what about that spy ware? I have been using Ad-aware 6.0 and Spybot search and destroy. This stuff has been removing tons of crap from my pc. Any opinions on this software?

I've been using Free Surfer mk II for quite awhile now and 95% of the popups get squished before they have a chance to live.

Pop-Up Stopper by Panicware has been working great for me. I paid about $10 US at WA Costco. I'd pay 5x that if I had to do it again.

I think that the add people are getting smarter and disguising the pop us at the programming level so that they can not be recognized by our pop up stoppers. I still have most of them squashed but I think that i am seeing more getting by lately. :?

I use the Spybot/search and destroy also. Small note is that you should check the site names it cleans up, and record them. The program does not remove all references, but quarantines them.....The cookie is inactivated, but the info is still on your disc, taking up space.

You can use the SEARCH feature in Windows and ask for the site name...then send them all to trash, and empty the trash bin..

Can you eliminate them by deleting cookies and temporary internet files instead of doing a search for each site name?

While i'm browsing, 50% of the time I'll open up pages in new windows. I found that all the pop-up blockers that I tried disabled the "open in new window" function.

I now use Opera which allows pop-up blocking and elimination of those annoying flash applets. I was always curious why microsoft never included these features/options in explorer.
