I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Thoughts on using long air runners in place of pod filters

When i bought my GS1100 it didn't have a stock airbox, just pods and big surprise it didn't run.

The 16 valve 1100's work very well with pods if tuned properly. Mine easily runs as well as with the stock airbox. Starts easy, idles correctly and pulls hard everywhere at any throttle opening. Mileage is down a bit, though. Get a jet kit and set it up properly and you will have no issues.

A Dynojet kit and quality pods like real K&N's or APE filters will solve the running issues. No need to reinvent the wheel.

+1.

I got the airbox in and all is well. Still haven't started it yet but the box fit on good.

Quick question, are these holes on the side of the carbs supposed to be plugged with something?20200308_164745.jpg

My 850 is running really well in all RPM ranges with foam pods. My one and only complaint is that crosswinds can mess with it some. I'm planning on fabbing some shields for the sides this year to play with that issue. It's not bad, so it can only get better.

Hahah that's about normal for me. I have more vehicles not running than i do have running. I was going to attempt to bump start it but without front brakes i would probably end up down the hill and into the water.

There are depressions in the carb bodies for the fuel passage. That #4 carb in the picture should only have an open hole on the other side of the carb. If you poke something into the 'hole' shown, it should only go about 1/4" in and stop dead. If you can poke in any more than that, somebody has drilled it out or substituted a #2 carb body.

.

Huh that's interesting. It seems like it stops dead in the body but i wanted to make sure it wasn't a potential leak point.

We are using 2-strokes, 4-stroke engines as examples. For the purpose of trying help this member, 2 strokes are a different animal and not a good example in this instance. In my experience and of many others if your using CV carbs and pods your going to need a jet kit. There is no way to jet around it. I have, on CV carbs used the 1st stage of the air box with a filter and eliminated the 2nd stage without using a jet kit with good results. This gets air flow from 1 source and the GS1100E I bought from a friend, was my brothers ex bike, which I originally set up. Ran well, no issues with stumbling, weather, wind, excessive wear(I tore it down for an oil leak 2 yrs ago) Not sure if the filter is still available. I will try to measure the filter and post results to see if it still be found as a universal fit type event. Slide valve type carbs (79 and earlier?) seem to be jetable with pods in a more normal fashion.

I correct myself. The air filter was only a foam uni-filter using OEM boxes. I know I have seen them, check E-bay but did not find any thing. If we measured yhe Intake size, I'm sure one could be found to be able to draw air from 1 source.
