    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Throttle & Choke Interference

Finally finished up all the maintenance work, and re-assembled my GS650GLX. However, my choke can not be activated more than 3mm. I have the 1981 vertical choke cable assembly, and the bar that connects the bracket on the Choke Valve Shaft for #3 carb to the Choke Cable Bracket assembly butts into the Throttle Cable Screw (end of throttle cable) below the Throttle Lever Seat. Hopefully you can see what I mean looking at the below graphic.

The handle bar throttle cable has the adjustment set all the way in, and the throttle cable screw extends below the seat quite a lot, so I can't see adjusting the screw upwards to clear the sideways choke travel. And even if I could, the choke connector bar would still run into the throttle cable wire (though I could probably get another 2mm travel).

Suzuki changed the choke activator design for 1982, I assume because they realized the problem? Have anyone run into this problem before, and if so, what was the solution? Could really use some guidance here.

Well, I believe I've found the problem. Rather than following the pics I took during carb disassembly, I should have looked closer at the Clymer pics. It appears the PO had reversed two of the Choke Valve Shaft Brackets on the "rod". Clymer shows the attaching bracket between carbs 1 & 2, and not carb 2 & 3. The bad news is now I get to remove the carbs again to correct the error.

Well, perhaps this useless post will serve some poor newbie in avoiding a mistake. It clearly was installed incorrectly before as the rear of the valve cover was scraped up pretty good from the linkage bar rubbing against it over time. Perhaps the PO wondered why he had such a hard time starting cold even "with" choke:shock:.
