    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Throttle hard to turn

Ever since I have had my '77 750 (2 years) it has had a very resistive throttle. I know a lot of this is the return spring on the carbs but if I replace it with a lighter one, it isn't strong enough to return the slides on the VM carbs to idle. I have not replaced/lubed the throttle cable, which I assume should help a bit. I don't think it would have that much effect on it though. Getting on any of my friends' more modern bikes (92,94,00, etc) I have to be WAY careful with my throttle control or else I will wheelie any of their bikes with the same effort it takes to just get mine up to speed.

Is this normal? Also, any ride longer than about 20 miles or so my right hand/arm feels like it is going to fall off from having to try so hard.
 
Sounds like some sort of binding in the carb itself.
Might be time to dis-assemble the rack and investigate, maybe hardened o-rings causing binding.

you can be suprised how much it will help by lubing the cable and greasing the throttle. definately do that. it made a huge difference on my bike.
 
I'll second both sentiments. Start simple and lube the cable first. A replacement might even be in order. If that doesn't fix it, then I'd be prepared to rebuild the carbs.

Cool, I'll do those things then. I know it isn't the carbs because this is the second rack that has been on this bike (first set was actually off of a KZ650!) and I did an amazingly thorough rebuild on the current set. I noticed no change in throttle heaviness between the 2 sets of carbs.
