Throttle Tube aarrgghh I broke it

Just replaced my grips with some progrip gels, and noticed the throttle tube is sort of fluted. Is the r1 tube smooth on the outside? Can't really get this grip to stick on the presumably stock throttle tube.

Broke the connector on my throttle tube on Sunday. Suzuki doesn't make the connectors so had to shell out $20 for an entire new cable.
You're from Crystal Lake? Small world, my parents live there, maybe we'll go ride when I have to bring the bike back to their house to store for the winter.

Still waiting on my throttle tube from Ron Ayers... they are slow as fvck, not worth the $4 I saved.

I replaced my tube with one from an R1. I had to shave it down slightly to get it to fit, but it works great. You'll need R1 grips as well as it's about 1/2" longer. BTW until I got the new tube I used a dirtbike tube with only one of the cables.

Couldn't I just take a bandsaw/jigsaw to it and shave 1/2" off the end of the tube before I put the grips on?

could someone be more specific on why the R1 throttle is better than the Suzi?

The cables attach onto the tube just the same as the stock one, however, the radius of the throttle tube is larger on the Yamaha than the Suzuki, meaning that when you twist the throttle tube, the cables travel a farther distance over the same amount of twist, same as if you took a piece of string and wrapped it around a pencil vs a waterbottle, the waterbottle takes less wraps to use up the string. Extreme case but you probably get the point.

kool, I get it.

Cool :D

Yah, you could do that, but I didn't want to cut the end.

Yeah, words can not express how little I care about the end of the throttle tube that the grip sits on. My new bars (superbike) are narrower anyways, so it may be to my advantage to cut it a little bit.

UPS says it's out for delivery... hopefully the weather holds out and I can do this tonight!

Actually thats the bar I am using now, I had to get rid of the dirt bike handle bars. The superbike bars sit a bit lower and are a little shorter, but looks so much better.

The deed is done, HOLY CRAP what a difference.

Main points:
- I got lucky and my grips were the right size. I haven't compared the stock tube to the Yamaha one yet, but I just tossed my grips on and I was good to go, so I can't comment on the 1/2" size difference.

- The Yamaha tube IS a DIRECT BOLT ON FIT to the stock setup. You will absolutely notice the difference in throttle response. If you are thinking about it, do it. Makes the bike much livelier.

- I need to get creative with my clutch cable routing and my front brake line, it sits OK, but the routing could be better and the clutch feels like the cable is binding at the handle, making it rather heavy.

- If you want to change out your bars for something sportier but not too extreme, GO WITH SUPERBIKE BARS!

- I can lean in faster, the bike feels more stable on the highway, I'm loads more comfortable. No complaints thus far, aside from the fact that I notice very clearly now that my front end needs progressive springs like yesterday.

I hope this helps out anyone who wants to try this mod out. I am very happy with it so far!
