Time is out of sync.

Hi friends:
I still have this problem: Distribution time is out of syn; I synchronize with piston valves, but when I turn the engine with the electric starter, after several turns of the valve hits the piston and the engine stops.
I bought another tensioning mechanism on ebay, but I re-produce the same problem .. So the tensioner mechanism was not ..! This engine driving me crazy .. please help ..!:-s:?::?::?:

Most likely the valves are bent now. You might want to pull the valve cover and look at the valve clearances. If you have a bunch of clearance on any of the valves, it's time to pull the head.

A clarification: single spin the engine with the starter motor movement ... never reached the turn, and there was an explosion ..! first wanted to verify that the synchronized and not refuel ..!

1. year and model of bike 81 gs450 I think i read somewhere
2. do you have a manual for the timing instructions?
3. how did you set the timing?

Did you release the tensioner so It could work?


4. if the tensioner was bad, then the timing could have jumped and you may be off time by a few teeth.
5. You only have to be off by 1 tooth for the valves to hit the piston!!
6. If you didn't rotate the engine very hard then the valves may be ok.
7. If you did rotate it and it stopped hard, the valves may be bent and that is why Nessism is advising you to take the head off and look for bent valves.

If I have the Haynes manual, and follow the procedure.
I will review the tensioning mechanism and if this continues I'll do Nissim advise me ..

No friend, do not change anything, today I returned to synchronize as indicated in the manual, and to the mechanism of tension, set it as the manual says: Loosen the lock nut of the screw, turn the wheel counterclockwise and introduced the plunger into the mechanism, secure the screw and tighten the screw nut, install the locking mechanism on the block, tighten the mounting screws and then loosen the lock nut, turn the screw of the tensioning mechanism quarter back, to release the plunger, so that looking at the chain note that this been tensioned and then went back to adjust the nut.
Tomorrow I will continue with the work that had discharged the battery today.
I hope to start the engine ...!

Before you do anything more, you should check the cam timing. The instructions are in the service manual.

Remove the valve cover and ignition cover.

Set the engine to the 1 T mark on the crank indicator.

Notches in the cams should be pointing at each other when viewed from the RH side of the engine.

Look at the exhaust cam to see if the 1-- mark is pointing at the valve cover gasket surface.

Count the cam chain links between the 2 and 3 marks on the cams.

If the cams are out of phase with the crankshaft, you will bend valves when trying to turn over the engine. Most likely this already happened based on what you have said, but lets hope.
