Tire Size Conversion for an 83 GS

I've been looking at BassCliff's site and pondering the tire conversion info he has posted there. If I read things correctly, would the following work on my 83 GS 1100 ES?

The manual calls out the following tire sizes: 3.5V19 for the front and 4.5V17 for the rear. Do these convert to 100/90-19 and 120/90-17 respectively?

Are there some issues I should be aware of since these rims require tubes?

Most GSR members run 100/130 on the large GS bikes using those same wheel sizes. There is no advantage with going smaller in the rear. And no problem using a tube inside a "tubeless" tire.

Yep, most people use 100/90-19 front and 130/90-17 rear on these bikes.

Technically, the 130 rear is a tad wide, but 120/90-17 is a very rare size. Not sure it's even available any more.


And to answer the next question, Avon AM26 RoadRiders or Pirelli Sport Demons.


Lots of people with this bike have also converted to tubeless, but that's a whole different debate.

I have recentltused a couple BT45 Bridgstone rears and also a Metzler ME880 in that size. I don't think they work better than 130's I have used. I don't ride super hard though, as I get older
