    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Tire Size for '77 750

Not all 3.25 tyres are 89mm wide, this would vary from maker to maker. Metric 100mm wide tyres area different profile and are designed to be wider, its not just like fitting a wider tyre (or tire!! :D ) The imperial sizes were an older profile. I.E. same size rim, imperial size tyre is narrower and taller than metric.
You are right though to say that fitting an excessively wide tire to a rim distorts the profile and could lead to handling issues. A metric 100/90 tyre is designed for the 2.15" rim.

Wanted more rubber up front, right now the bike has a horrible HEIDENAUER 8O :cry: tire on it (some east german crap) and a new Metzeler at the back.
 
Bike, '78 GS750. Front tire, Metzeler Me33 Laser, 3.25H19. Rear tire, Yokohama Tour Star, 120/90/18. I bought these tires years ago, but they are still quite serviceable, ie no cracks, tread still good, etc. I don't know if Metzeler even makes this size anymore, and I know Yokohama doesn'
t even make motorcycle tires anymore. Didn't they sell out to Bridgestone? :?:

Hello,

I use Michelin Macadam 4.00-18 rear and 3.25-19 front on my 1977 GS 750. Super good adherence and the price is not too bad also. As far as the look goes, the rear tire could be 4.25 or even wider, but I only found this size for my bike.

I also have Michelin Macadam on my BMW R1150RT the adherence is super, but I find that because of the greater bike weight they tend to use faster.
