DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

tire size

Without perusing tire charts, anyone have a gut feeling about how much wider a 140-90 -16 tire would be compared to 130-90- 16; tire is a Conti Blitz ?

Your next question should be "will it fit my bike?" or "should I install it on my bike?"

The answer to both of those would be "NO".

Motorcycle tires work a bit differently than car tires. the 140 tire needs a wider rim to properly support it. If you install it on the rim on your 650, it will be pinched into a tighter radius, which will give you a SMALLER footprint on the pavement.

It might look "cool", but will not work as well as a properly-sized tire. :o

.

People talk about 130 being the proper size for GS bikes with 2.5" wide rear wheels. The 650 rear wheel is 2.75" wide so I don't think a 140 will cause problems due to the sidewalls pinching in, although I'm not sure if there is clearance in the swingarm.

IIRC, stock tires worked out to be 120/90. There was not a whole lot of clearance to the swingarm when I mounted a 130 on my 650GD, but it has a 17" rim vs the 16 on the GL. I'll try to get a measurement/pictures for you when I get home, Tom.

Stock size tire was a 130 on the GL w/16" wheel.

Oh...really? Thank you. I did not know that. One more difference between the Gs and Ls of which I am now aware.

Yes, swingarm clearance under harsh conditions (bumpy road on right turn) would be my worry with the wider 140. I'll stick to what I got as it works well . Don't need it yet anyway, as my tires look good BUT they are getting old!
