Hi,

I have a gs1000g project that is nearly finished just needs bodywork doing.

I have a chance to get my hands on GS1000S quite cheap with great body work in the blue and white colours (sorry can't think of the replica name)

I just wondered if the S model tank and panels will fit ok, don't mind tweeking them.

Its quite a good buy it runs fine with MOT so was thinking I could break for parts of even put my pannels on it and sell on ?

Any thoughts?

Why would you pull an 'S apart to make a clone ??
Sell the G to build the 'S . That what I be doin' . ;)

Flop 'em out . Give us a look . :p

Cheers , Simon . :)

Heck with the "G"....you can get body parts off ebay.

Get the "S" and restore that baby. If it's in any kind of shape at all, it's a keeper.

"Regular" G's are a dime dozen compared to the much, much more rare Cooley.:)

Hi,

I don't think its a genuine S, its just a chain driven model with all the tank etc as wes cooley rep with Yoshimura transfers etc doesn't have the nose cone thingy.

See i would just do the S up but have spent alot on the gs1000, currently have a Gs1100g engine in it... but the more i think of it the more I am tempted to sell the g and do the S up ...

So what model will it be, I can post pic as not sure how to.

I just wondered if the pannels would swap over ok

It looks like a 1980? GS1000E all painted Wes Cooley style.

well it has a similar kinda Wes Cooley paintjob for a start.
"Wes Cooley" fairing is very easy to add!
And takes wind preasure off the rider at speed!
(Add steering damper)!

GS1000 bikes are not common here Down Under.
I am doing a W.C. replica paintjob and adding a fairing on a G shafty!

That's so close to being done I'd definitely keep the S and ditch the G... you sure it's not genuine and someone just ditched the fairing at some point?

And no, I have no idea how to tell if it's genuine or not...

Well I bought it, pick it up in a couple of days so will post up some pics and see what I have.

Then the delemma, which one to keep and which one sell:-\\\

It's the MRS i'm scared off when she suddenly realises my GS1000G had a baby bike.

Hmmm.... I wonder how long " it's my mates" will last :)

So,

got it home and yep I love it to bits so after a years worth of grief and more parts than I dare to remember I'm gonna sell the G.

The E has had lots of money spent and even includes the s screeen cowling which was a nice suprise. Its have new discs, stinless stell everything blraided hoses and K&n's Also has original S Seat which is mint and Original S screen cowling... no clocks though.. boo

Only bad point is no lights on dash but dash works, and unfortunately a little blue smoke when started so piston rings are gone I feel. But hoping selling the G will fund this.

I will post some pics up for people to comment.

Valve seals are most likely

Adjust the valves and check the compression - if the compression is good= valve seals

If it doesn't suck much oil, just ride it until you replace them (can be replaced w/o tearing down the motor)

A good way to tell if it's genuine '80 "S" is whether it has rear set pegs or not. The easy clue is whether it has a linkage/rod for the gear shifter or the shifter just attached directly to the shifter shaft like on your "G".
