    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Top end noise \ weird idle?

Hi everyone,

Below is the link to a video i posted. The bike has been warmed up and am wondering is the idle \ top end noise is normal.
I know the carbs need to be synched and the shims need to be replaced on the intake and exhaust for Cyl 1 and intake on Cyl 4.

Sounds somewhat normal.

Change your shims BEFORE doing the carb sync.

Why is your "choke" lever mounted there?

The choke is mounted there because the bike went down before and they had to change to aftermarket controls on the left side but kept the original controls next to them. I removed them and remounted the choke at the spot you can see.
Also, in regards to the shims and carb synch. I am also planning on doing a color tune on the engine.
Which order should all 3 be done in?
 
What a pretty bike! Sounds normal....but yes, the clutch cable needs to be between carb 1 and 2. Hopefully it has enough reach....otherwise get new oem cable.
 
I see what you mean regarding the clutch cable. Would that make any difference at all or is it just esthetics?
also, as per the question i asked before, in which order should the following 3 things be done?
- Carb synch
- Color tune
- Shim change

Aesthetics would be enough for some.
I can think of four reasons not to leave it there.
Laying on something hot.
Touching HT lead.
Wire loop on side of a bike will eventually snag something at the worst possible moment.
Something the builders knew but I'm not smart enough to figure out yet.
 
Thats fair,

I was looking at doing some work this weekend including moving the wire but i came down with a fever and spent the weekend in bed sweating lol.
Next Monday and tuesday (my weekend), i'll take care of all this and hopefully post pictures of the process.
Will hopefully et accomplished:
- valve adjustment / shim replacement
- carb synch
- color tune
- re-route clutch cable.

Also, if I am looking at replacing the controls, does anyone have any ideas or good controls to switch to? and while we are on this subject, it seems like the clutch cable is a bit tight to pull, is that normal on these bikes?
 
Your bike is gorgeous and sounds pretty good for not having done your valve adjust, sync and tune.

As for your clutch cable.... There is a transitional distance change in every bend, radius of bend and the movement of the bars that was acounted for, in relation to routing. Once you get it in the right place it may smooth out or, at least be ready for a propper adjustment.
