top end rebuild 81 gsx1100ex.aftermarket gaskets or genuine??

My bike is starting to burn oil has lost some compression on no 3 so will have to do a top end rebuild.
I want to use the best parts possible as in gasket,cam chain,pistons(if needed) etc.
Is genuine suzuki the way to go or after market.I think I will leave it stock if it does not need pistons?Any advice appreciated

You can't go wrong with stock parts. Not cheap though for those gaskets. Vesrah gaskets are well respected and cheaper than stock in the US, not sure about Australia. Athena gaskets are not as good from what I have read here.

Hi , i have just done a top end rebuild on my 82 1100 16 valve and used the non genuine gasket kit - all seems fine except for the left overs , and the parts that did not fit.
Head hasket , cylinder base , clutch cover , ignition pickup and stator fitted. Timing chain tensioner gasket did not fit and the bit that annoyed me was there is no half moons for the rocker cover in the kit.

Oh well cant complain , the kit cost me $200.00 aus

I blew out a stock base gasket a couple years ago. After tht I switched to Cometic gaskets out of Painesville Ohio. They have some real trick materials they use. My base gasket now is an aluminum coated rubber gasket. The pan, clutch, etc. are all aluminum core coated on both sides with some kind of material. It was called afm or something. I would never go back to the stock stuff after all the leaking and blowing out that base gasket.

I used the Versa gasket set with good results, much less expensive than stock. I did replace my chain guides, stock only.

Vesrah does not have a gasket factory. They go to the same people who make oem and have them made. You are getting basically the same thing for considerable less money. We have sold Vesrah for over 20 years with zero complaints.
