Track Stories 08

Looks like everyone's weekend went well. Was very happy to read E finally dialed down the boost. I suspect things will start falling into place for her now and she will get harder and harder to catch.

Like those in-car vids! I have never drove a car down the track. You can sorta tell its a whole different ball game.

We showed up Saturday and things were going fine until we bent a bar and damaged a joint on the kids bars. Dad made it to six. It was real late. No track prep and dew set in. I could hear the bike miss shift and that was that. A full day of racing for $75. Gained some points.

Sunday, get up early and change the coupler and set the bars. We get called up and then notice we had broke the shift shaft on blackey. Missed first and 2nd time trials while we welded it back together. They let us make one run and it worked flawless. But we went out first round. Kid continued to battle down to 8 and finally his tick killed him. Day two, $50.

Kid did manage to take over the points lead for the bikes and has moved up to 10th place in modified. It's been a rough year.

Tonight we were doing some cleanup work to better blend the fairing to match the body after the chain incident.

We are now gearing up to do full battle for the remainder of the year..

So, there I am pushing dad through the pits. We normally start out doing 30 mph until we get close to where people park and then I slow to 15-20. If there are people out, I stay closer to 10. Limit is 5. Admit it, you all exceed the limits in the pits. Well maybe not...

So, there I am pushing him along in the area where there are lots of people. I see this car make the corner and he is flying up on us. He gets on our tail and starts reving his engine. We are way over to the side so I figure he will pass. He does. I am guessing at least 40 when he went by. Guy on a bicycle is coming at the other direction has to hit the grass. I see he is ****ed. The driver of the car then hits the brakes and pulls in maybe 50 feet in front of us.

It's not driving down the track that your at high risk, it's in the pits!!

Enough BS, more pictures of the day...

First thing to say is WOW awesome graphics and detail... LOVE IT... hope to take advantage of that skill this winter ;)

sorry to hear of the troubles with the runs.. but congrats to the point lead!

Thank you I was happy to see that they had a lighter spring to put on for me.. BUT my suspension should be setup to handle at least 8lbs of boost even if it's just off the gate... that will be addressed later when money and time can allow... for now I'll do with what I can.

I need to get my 330 down ALOT to see better times so with that I may be ok with just addin in a lil more with the AMS in the second stage.

BTW I didnt 'forget about getting you those text files just been too busy :o just to answer one of your questions however.. it builds boost under load. So when I'm revin at the line there is no boost as I release the clutch lever the boost level climbs up to what's on the gate which is at this point 5-6 lbs and it's at that level till I shift into 2nd ...

E.
really startin to consider puttin my onboard camera back on to see my shift points and launch rpm... to make sure I'm being consistant.. just sucks cuz I have even less room now up front to strap the battery pack too

When your ready I am sure my friends would take care of you. Just need to schedule it in. I wish I could post some of the real hardcore graphics I have seen him do. Very impressive but not something you want on a working race bike. Some times you fall off and there goes the paint....Or, your ignorant and don't put silicone on the master link..Duh!...

Going to try and get the flag bike out this Friday (second time out this whole year). All new ignition, coils and plug wires. Still thinking that the problem is in the ignition.

Goal, 7.98 LOL

yeah I'll know more once teh season is over.. now that I know kinda of how far away ya are I'm sure I could arrange something to come out in the winter months when I figure out for sure what I want and how much i can afford...

I agree can't go with something too fancy.. as one can see how often my tail came on and off it dont' exactly take much to ding paint on a race bike :o

Love your GOAL ET > just enough to be faster than me :p just wait that bar will be set even lower next time out .. I hope LOL

RCC told me what we did obviously is a temp fix.. we should be able to launch with 13 lbs of boost off the line he said with teh proper setup... and right now I'm only doin 5 lbs.... I'm sure I'll get to the point where you can't catch me - even WITH bars :D

E.

LOL, my goal was obvious.

RCC is right. Obviously with the "proper setup" you could launch with your controller set at 50PSI. With the setup you have, I see no other fix than to drop the power.

Will be interested in seeing how you get that 13 PSI off the line. My friend with the Busa says he can pull that sort of boost on the 2-step. Are you allowed to run one?

BTW, did you ever receive the DVD?

The faster the bike ran was 65, in the trailer. I rode the bike to tech, went to start it and nothing. Thought I killed another battery. I carry a spare but turned out the starter motor died. Putting 24 volts on them with that much load really shortens the life. Friend is giving me a spare motor so I can rebuild one to keep in the trailer. Back to BikeBandit....

They were actually spraying the track. I saw them spary twice. They dragged it several times. Would have been great to get out there. Lights were all over the place. Best I saw was a 0.002. The worst was several seconds! Not sure how that works..

Ok, who had the GS850 shaft? Don't think I didn't see that bike parked under the stands!

We moved to mid track and watched the races till 1:00AM today. Onle the second time out this year and ran into a few old friends I hadn't seen since last year. One has a sled that he was running in the 9.20s. He was running 8's with it last year. Other friend has a stock Busa that he was running very close to the 9's last year and was the quickest bike there, running mid 9s.

We saw one guy on a GSX? early on that looked like he lost a ring or something. Poor bike cut loose about mid track letting out a smoke screen.

Hey Mark, sorry about the starter loss but I think I can help you. I have a friend at Dynatek that hooked me up with a guy in Louisiana that builds his starters. Larry's bike is a 15 to 1 Top Gas GS1428 & the starter spins his motor FASTER than the bike idles! SERIOUSLY! He showed me by hitting the starter button while the bike was idling & the motor SPED UP! Call Paul Cashio at 504-393-2260. He builds an awesome part & they LIVE! Hope this helps you, Ray.

You know I have little reguard for Raymond at dyna after that last go around we had with them. Your bud Tank has friends there too I guess. One big happy family over there. LOL.

He builds the starters from scratch? That's crazy! Any idea what he charges for them, are they 12 or 24V? You put 24V on that stock motor, believe me it gets whipping pretty good.

I took the starter out and the good news is the turbo is holding up real good. That simple Ward pickup works great.

Bad part is the starter is beyond rebuild. Brushes, what brushes? The commutator's contacts look like they had turned into plazma. There are a few balls of copper left on five of them. I had rebuilt this motor at the start of the 06 season. Prior to that was some time in 04. So it looks like it would need to be rebuilt at least once a year to save the commutator. Or I need to stop doing compression checks....

No one is going to own up to that GS850? We thought about using your starter for the night. LOL.

Mark, I am trying to help you & you say crap like this! You should KNOW I am not buds with Tank! In fact I think you KNOW this so please don't say it like that again. I'm SERIOUS! Don't even joke about it! Also, I have NO respect for Raymond at Dynatek but LARRY is a GREAT guy! Lastly, CALL Paul Cashio! I doubt you will ever need another starter again & his are MADE to live on 24 volts! In fact, they last longer that way. You won't be disapointed! Ray.

That paint is unreal. I'm going to have to paint mine this year after my little body blowing over in the trailer mishap. I think mine will be quite a bit more basic.

Got taken out in the second round by a streetbike. He was .006 to my .030. He broke out by .028 and I broke out by .029. Thats what I get for laying on the tank to catch him.

Bike ran 5.87 @ 116.36 and 9.341 @138.43. I think this fall when the air gets cool and dry I might get it into the 9.20's. Second place went on to win. This leaves me up by 5 going into the final week. Even on out biggest nights we never go over 4 rounds. So I should be good.

I've seen people throw his name out before on DB but no one posts any details. Assume it's his work number and was going to call on a weekday. Makes sense he is making them for 24V. Crazy to make those parts for a handfull of motors.

sorry for the delay.. been caught up inthings here and there.. yes I got the DVD - THANK YOU... it was nice to watch what was going on on the big screen (63") LOL in fact we slowed the play down and saw that on a few of those wheelies that day I had both wheels OFF the ground and bunny hoppin when it came down..

nope can't run a 2step... BUT good news... we are getting closer and closer to havin the chasis and shock set up to handle the boost off the line...

BAD NEWS FOR YOU! LOL cuz now you gotta set your goal a bit lower than before :p

7.83 run

7.80 run

Alright E!!! Bring that bike up for the next race!! Heck, I would even push you again if needed. I bet you would be pretty close to what that other bike was running by then.

To tell the truth, I would be pumped to see the old bike run 7.999. It has never been anywhere near those numbers. I think 8.26 was the quickest ever. When Jack raced it in IDBA, I think his best was 8.70s or so. But, you never know until you try. Hope to get another shot at it before the snow flys..

Glad the video made it alright and that you could view it. We need a big screen in the trailer for this sort of thing.

Great vids Ryan. Does this mean we will see something come from you this year? We always enjoy getting together to watch. We make a party out of it..

Went to look at some trailers today. To get what I want, I need a bigger car. The little Escape is only rated to pull 3500, The junker bike is about 9 feet long. I saw a nice Halmark that was setup for two bikes but I bet it's only 5' high on the inside. I seem to be loosing some height in my old age but not that much. It's very nice other than that.

What Ray??? I figured I would at least get a rise out of you with my picture of the two friends walking on the beach in the sun. Looks like a CA beach, for sure. LOL.

thanks Mark... I will most def be there for the bike and sled 2Day event.. nem might be coming as well... but he's gonna try and help me and buz so we just may take you up on the offer to push me ;) - truth be told to video my runs would be most helpful as well... we see so much more on the recordings than live.. cuz your can only see so much while it's all happening but the rewind feature is a blessin on video - hehehe...

were ya'll still doin a track rental before this event?

With the times I'm runnin lately I will most def be competitive with that last bike and a few others that may show up :p

I'm hopin to see some lower times however by then and if' that's the case I just may have a shot at first place :D

E.

I am not sure on the track rental. The had the NHRA guys running there last week. I think it's a few thousand is all so we could put something together. The sled guys did it last year. Let me ask and get back with you.

Hey, if Nem is coming he can pit fo you and buz. He's younger and has to be in better shape than me.

If you can handle seeing yourself on video, its a great tool. 1/8th speed on the DVD player is great! I like the DVDs just so you can see all the detail. So much better than posting on-line. It would be great to have a person just do this full time. Then you could get what ever angle you want and every run recorded. Once your kids get a little older I think the problem will be solved. Tell them I said hello.

We are supposed to be good weather for Saturday. New tires are mounted and broke in. I think we are ready this time to kick some car butt!

All I can say is WOW.

Started the day off wet and rainy. Weather finally left us and we got time trials under way.

I ended up going 4 rounds for the event win. That made it official and I finished the year as the bike class champion. After the regular racing was over they called for the track champion runoff. The Top, Mod, Street, and Bike Champions all race each other for an overall champion. I drew the mod champ wile the Top champ drew the street champ. I beat the mod champ in a double break out win going going a 9.349 on a 9.35. He was 10.016 on a 10.03. The street champ beat our Top champ setting up a Bike champion street champion runoff for the Title. Ended up taking the win. We were almost dead even off the tree, but I was able to run closer to my dial for the win. So I won the 08 Track Champion. And finally they called us back up to do a runoff for a box and no box classes for the Super Series runoff at the bracket finals. To top off the night the Top champion turned on the red light giving me the win. That has to be one of the best nights of racing I've ever had. Somehow everything just lined up for me.

Hope everyones weekend went as well.
