    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Whats up,
As I am new to the whole gs thing, I am a little scared. I have a 82 gs1100g and for some reason it has started making a weird sound kind of like the one in this link on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smCIu7KEESc so if anyone has any info that can help me out it would be much appreciated. All I know as of right now is that it is getting colder now and I have all the time I need to try and fix it. I know its coming from the left side near where the drive shaft is bolted and it only does it while its in gear. I guess first step is to try and remove the drive shaft and go from there hope it isn't broken or worse off a pinion gear is shattered or something expensive like that. :(

The right angle gears out of transmission run in oil-have you checked this?- then those gears turn a u-joint (under the rubber boot) which drives a propeller shaft which inputs to the pumpkin (also runs in its own oil) . Lots of places that could make noise, especially if PO was negligent. Try to determine which end the noise seems to be coming from. Put on centerstand, in gear (NOT RUNNING) and rotate back wheel back and forth - any unpleasant clunks or play?

Also FYI have a fan running to cool the engine while you have it running and stationary. Doesn't take long to overheat.

check my old posts...
I disassembled my bike for a similar noise.... but yours sounds more "regular".
mine would change sounds when I blipped the throttle.
was the #$%^%@ !!!! clutch basket.
suggest you check the clutch basket. if those little springs on the clutch basket are loose, it will sound like rocks in the tranny.
when i removed my basket, it sounded like a tambourine ! { here: http://s381.photobucket.com/albums/oo258/exdirtbiker/?action=view&current=MOV02922.mp4 }

edit... my old posts are gone ? frustrating !
edit again... found 'em: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=140908&highlight=gs1000l+noise

or just wacth this: http://s381.photobucket.com/albums/oo258/exdirtbiker/?action=view&current=MOV01981.mp4

(I find it really cool that my camera ignored all the noise except the noises I wanted you guys to hear ! )
( the "loose rocks" noise)
