    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Tricks to installing piano wire in clutch basket

Help! I am attempting to install the piano wire back into the basket. Any tricks to help with this? The basket is still in the bike and I don't want to pull it unless I have to. I'm working on a 1983 GS1100GK, 8432 miles on the clock. THANKS

Don't know nuffin bout no piano wire in clutch basket (hence my suspicions).

Thanks for the quick reply and advice Redman, I'll repost the question to the correct forum. I did have lots of background but after two failed attempts to correctly post, and lose of data each time... my question became increasingly less detailed. I'll get this forum process down shortly. After taking the bike out of storage, two pair of steel "driven plates" were stuck to their friction "drive plates". During disassembly, I removed the inner most steel driven plate that is retained by the stopper ring or "Piano wire" I used the term basket but more correctly should have called it the Sleeve Hub. I have read where some folks leave out the retaining wire with only stiff "cold oil" 1st gear shift resulting. I would like to reinstall the stopper ring or piano wire but the "wave washer" is making this difficult. I was looking for advice from someone who has installed this wire as to the best way. Note: the Sleeve Hub containing the wave washer seat, wave washer, steel disc, stopper ring (piano wire), friction disc, etc... is still in the bike and I would prefer not to tear down the clutch any farther than I have already. Yah, if take too long (as I often do) it logs you out. Usally can just log back on, and your post gets posted, but sometimes not. So, one trick is to copy (Ctrl C ) things before trying to enter/post it. Then if get bombed out, you can paste (Ctrl V) it all back later.

Oh, you are further into clutch basket than I have gone. Have replaced plates and springs before, but that is as far as I have gone.
