A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey Guys need help with my 78 1000

its running the old mikunis (not sure if 26 28 etc) and today i started get low rev judder/hesitation did a plug chop and (looking down on the bike as if seated to ride) the first 2 plugs on that side are really sooted up the 2 on the right are fine so cleaned em up and fired it up all ok for 10 mins of riding then same again so pulled over and kept it running as i took a look at the engine etc noticed fuel coming out of pod/k+n filter (at the last owners advice i always run the bike on prime as when in on position etc it judders and hunts for fuel but to be fair in the 2 months ive owned it ive never had a prob with this) and its never leaked before

basically im now getting fuel coming out the pods on left hand side and bike is unridable

so what may be the fault and can i just fit some more modern carbs (gsxr etc) if so what and need to be cheap and can someone point me in direction of inlet rubber suppliers for any conversion

if not its getting a gix power plant ;)

all advice welcome thanks as you can see shes far from standard

Fix your petcock, and clean your carburetors.
Easy stuff, Cliff will be along to show you how to find the information you need.

as mentioned, strip, clean your carbs and check the fuel tap is in good nick too. float heights and a good blow out should cure it.
you may want to think about a fuel filter too if the tank is a bit scabby inside

Hi,

Your "mega-welcome" is in your other thread. For this issue, listen to the above good advice. You could also have some sticky floats, bad float valve seals, or something else goofy with your carbs. The best procedure would be to disassemble and dip the carbs in cleaner, then install a new O-ring kit from cycleorings.com. The O-ring kit and float bowl gaskets are usually all you need. Reuse all the original jets and stuff, just get them good and clean.

Are you using an inline fuel filter? These can be restrictive and are usually unnecessary if your tank is clean. Keep us informed.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

As above, it's 32 years old and needs some maintenance

As for bigger carbs, you're really limited unless you put on a later model head with bigger ports

GSXR carbs are way too big for your motor

A few hours of fiddling, a few $$ and you'll be fine.

thanks guys i guess my weekend is now sorted

will keep ya posted ;)

o ring kit ordered :p

any idea on float bowl gasket supplier ??

at ~$7 a gasket, i couldn't justify it. went to the local auto parts store and got a sheet of 1/32" gasket material and will be making my own based on the old template. i figure the DIY way is the way i'll be doing it for a long time (because that's how i like it)

oh, and the whole roll, for 4 carbs and a LOT left over, was less than $7...

Dealer or OEM online

Aftermarket tend to be inferior

WOW GREAT SERVICE

o-rings arrived today really pleased with that

let the build begin

well 4 hours later and have just been out on her and all "seems" fine

appears the main culprit was the main jet holder o-ring (2 were crappy rubber and 2 were fibreous type seals so all 4 replaced)

now to try a few more test runs

thanks again fellas top work i think you gotta nother forum keeper in me
