DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Tubeless or not to be tubeless?

By the way, for all the newbies reading this thread, we have had this exact same discussion/argument several times before in different threads. It's always best to perform a SEARCH for the answer to your questions before starting new and redundant threads, particularly on touchy subjects such as this which gets peoples blood boiling.

Sorry if I raised anyone's blood pressure. I did do a quick search and didn't did fine what I was looking for. But, I may not have used the correct search terms. That said and please correct me if I am wrong ...
From the postings here and elsewhere ... It is safe and OK to install tubeless tires on tubed rims as long as you install a tube. It is a lot less/not safe to install a tubeless tire w/o the tube on a tubed rim*.

*(although it can be done but not recommended)

Your post has just been a good way for you to get to know some of the guys here, by their opinions.

All that aside, what do you have against a tube?

I don't want to speak for SD...

But for me...
It is a lot harder to patch a tube on the side of the road, than it is to plug a tire.
It's more difficult to mount.
And it adds cost.

All a tube does is hold air...if your tire can hold air without one, why have one?

Nothing.

I just wanted to know whether A) It was OK to put a tubeless tire on a tubed rim? and B) did it need to have a tube inserted along with it? Because searching for tubed tires on the internet was not giving very good results. So, instead of wasting a boat load of time and trying to reinvent the wheel. I decided to ask my fellow riders who've been down this road before. And my questions have been answered

I have tubeless tires with tubes on both my bikes that have tubed rims.

I think I just ripped 2 brand new tubes, while installing my new tires.

**** tubes, I'm patching my spoke rims with RTV, and running tubeless.
Don't got time for games.

tubed rims wont support tubeless tyres, even with a tube in them.

So I wonder where one would buy a tire that could only be used in a tube type application? I don't think anybody has made them for about 30 years. I just today mounted a new tubeless rated Dunlop GT501 and it clearly says on the tire if used on a tube type rim to use a tube. So I did. Oh yeah, I got spoked wheels too.

maybe ducati MOTO GP team will start running spoked wheels next year for the weight. putting full on gp spec slicks on...with a tube in just to be sure !

They'll probably run wheels similiar to those seen on some wire wheel BMW's where the spokes are actually outside of where the bead sits and that will allow them to run without a tube. In racing heat would be a huge issue if they had to run tubes.
