I just recently picked up a 80’ GS850G that has been sitting for probably 10+ years. I cleaned the carburetors and got it running. Now I have a few question about how to proceeded.
1.) Plug wire insulation has some dry rot but bike seems to be getting good spark. Should I change the coils/wires now or wait until they start giving me trouble. Will these wires affect the carb sync?
2.) fork tube is damp. Does this automatically mean bad seal, or could a flush and fluid change recondition them and get ‘em working again.
3.) My Clymer has a table for fork spring length, but the table has no column headings and is confusing to me. The table lists two numbers for “GS850G and GS1000G”…. 421mm & 416mm; are these Min/Max, or for 850 & 1000 models respectively? Anyone know the specs for the 850 spring length?
any other tips or suggestions with the bike would be appriciated.
