    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi new to this forum
I'm building a 1979 GS850 G custom and I'm at the dreaded rewire stage can someone please explain how to get rid of the turn signal control unit and just use manual turn signals, not using standard speedo or turn signals.
thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.:cool:
 
There is a guide somewhere in the archives. It was made by someone who did it for the GS1000 but I think the 1979 850 is the same. The controller for those bikes was a one year wonder that broke down with regularity.
 
Yeah I had 2 GS850 parts bikes and got a GS1000, all 79's and one was gone, the other two no good. Seems like they fail on the right signal. I read a few posts that mentioned that, one did nothing and the other one of mine worked only on the left. Search on TSCU brings up the whole sad story about these things. The fix is cheap and easy, and free for me as it's just a spare flasher wired in.

But it's not really a good solution, as the you either have to (a) keep the return spring in the switch and hold it L/R to actuate the blinker, or (b) take the return spring out, which is fiddly but doable, and then it will hold in place but not reliably or solidly. Neither is very good.
 
Start bugging Rusty Bronco (Dale) to get busy on his microprocessor driven custom TSCU for those early bikes. He's wasting all his time on dumb house projects these days instead of prioritizing on motorcycle projects like he should!:p Maybe peer pressure will help motivate him...
 
I made a little unit with 2 double relays that works like the tscu except for the auto shut off. It works with the original hand control. I made a thread about it with a schematic. I'll try to find it.

Otherwise you probably need a different left hand control switch.
