    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Turn Signal Wiring 78 GS1000?

I am trying to revive a 78 GS1000 that has 32,xxx miles on it. The previous owner had a Windjammer and saddlebags on it. The turn signal wiring is cut up bad on both ends and those Scotch clip things are everywhere. I have found the power wire that goes into the rear turn signal stalks shorted out due to exposed wiring and repaired that. My old Clymer manual does not tell me the colr code for the power wire feeding each turn signal. I have unconnected Blk, Blk /white, Grn, and Orange wires to work with.
At this point I am not sure about the flasher, or the switch. I want to get these wires sorted out first. I would appreciate any insight.

Where can I get a relay and a flasher for my GS1000?
I assume it is a 78 GS1000C?

I got the turn signals wired up and they are working. Except for one problem, after initially blinking 3 times, my Left side signals now stay ON even when I have not activasted the left flasher!
Now I would LOVE to have my flashers to operate as turn signals and running lights but the left side is not flashing at all now and it stays on even when left turn is cancelled.
I am stumped!

More likely than not, the bike has a poor ground somewhere.

You really have to determine which model you do have, the turn signal wiring is different.
The basic "C" (C denotes the year) model looks like this.


The "E" model looks like this.


Once you determine which model you have, you can go from there.
The big differences between the models that are easy to spot are the aluminum wheels and dual disks on the E model. The "E" model has self cancelling turn signals, and thus different wiring, a turn signal control unit where as the "C" or basic has a buzzer to let you know that your turn signals are on.
Should you have an E model and need a new turn signal control unit, it will cost you big bucks, most people modify the wiring to have their turn signals to work manually for that reason.
As far as getting the new parts.

Check the wiring harness part for the buzzer and turn signal control unit,
the flasher is on the turn signal parts fiche.
They're having problems with the fiche, you can see the parts, but just a note saying they're having "technical" problems with the parts breakdown.

Ok, I have the "E" model because I have mag wheels and cancelling turn signals.
How would I wire the turn signals manually? But my engine is not a SHINNY as the one in the photo!
