    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

two niggling little questions

Hey guys -- got some small questions with my 1983 GS1150EF

1. I'm going to be doing a carb rebuild this weekend as well as test out some electrics, and for that, I need the seat off, but I think I broke the lock. Is there anyway to trigger the seat to come off without the key?

2. My left mirror (attached to the fairing) is loose such that when riding it moves towards me (gets pushed in by the wind). I don't see a screw to tighten it anywhere, the PO had a piece of tape jammed under it to keep semi-steady, but the tape has come off -- do any of you guys no any tricks to fix this more permanently?

Yes, on the backside of the seatlock, you will find two screws that hold the assembly to the frame. Remove the two screws, remove the rear cover plate on the assembly and pop the end of the cable out. Pull the cable end with two fingers to unlatch the seat.

For the mirror mount, I didnt have a fairing on my E model, but If you have a home supply store such as Home Depot, Lowes etc, buy a small tube of 3 M 5200 adhesive (the quick set type). Loosen the mirror mount enough to get a layer of 5200 under it, refasten and tape into place. Let set for about 3 hours and that should solve that little annoyance. :-)

BTW the solvent for 5200 is mineral spirits.

Or if you want a more permanent fix on the mirror, you can still buy them new from b.bandit and others for around $35 US.\\:D/
If not, I have a used set and will see which one had been repaired. If the left one is good, you can have it for shipping.
I'll post later which side it is.
