A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Two Tone Paint Job Question...

Painting a 1000S. Masked and shot the white base coat on most of the parts. Was going to shoot some clear on top of the white but as luck would have it I got a few runs so need to sand the base coat now.

Option 1: leave the masking in place, sand down the runs, and then hit the white with clear before moving to the blue

Option 2: remove the masking, sand down the runs, mask again and shoot the blue before moving to clear. This option will obviously require masking right on top of the base coat which is a little risky.

Regardless of option 1 or 2, the plan was to sand down the first couple layers of clear before laying down the graphics, and then more clear. When laying down one base coat next to another I've experienced some color bleeding when the clear goes down, although this is not a major concern because the graphic tape covers the mask line.

What say ye on best technique? I'm leaning toward going straight to blue base coat. Can't remember what I did on my other S.:-k

It's not the same scheme but the concept is the same: My 1100ES white and blue, the majority of which is white like the Cooley scheme, the blue was shot first, then masked off and white shot over it.

I've used this method before but decided to mask off the various colors this time. Base coat on top of base coat can bleed so you need to be careful; the clear bites into base and blends with it.

Ed, just a thin little layer of clear or a few coats?

My plan was to seal over the first color with one good coat of clear before adding the second color/clear. Now I'm thinking go for broke - add second base coat color before clearing both at once.

Edit: been reading at some auto body forums and they say it's okay to go base on base. Going that route with fingers crossed.

do base on base use a tape called fine line and use a autobody paper or plastic when masking so u avoid bleed thro. let the base sit for an hour then apply graphics over base then clear. i would put 5 coats of clear on it so u can sand the clear smooth and u will not feel any lines from the graphics it will look like u painted them on it.

Okay then. Base on base it is for sure now. Going to clear after the base, but before the graphics - don't have time to mess with the graphics today.:D

forgot to mention give it 20 min before u tape on the 1st base that way u know it is dry so the tape dosent peal it up

Cooking in the sun for a little while before clear coat.:)

Where is Nevr2old??

You're doing it the way I like to do it, too. I try to keep the white as the final color. It's so vulnerable to scuffs and dirt. Everything shows on the white, so it's best to get it clear coated as soon as you can. Base coat against base coat is a great way to do it if you can lay all the colors down one after another over the course of a couple of days. They say you can tape on it in an hour, but I don't like doing that. It leaves tape marks that may or may not go away under the clear. I spray one color per day, then clear coat immediately after the final color is on. 3 coats. Sand, apply decals (and decal stripes if you're going that route), spray another 3 coats. Sand, buff.

This is all base coat, no clear yet.
