    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

well... i bought this bike a few weeks ago and i heard a ticking, first thought, adjust the valves. Turns out it was an exhaust leak. After further investigation i noticed two bolts were stuck in the head(the inside two for the 2 and 3 cylinders.) i have read the thread on getting them out, but i already tried easy outs... well it broke off inside the second cylinder bolt... I'm going to take a step back and ask all of you what you think i should do next.. here are some pictures

Dang those are some blurry pictures! ;-)

When I broke off an easy out inside a hole I had to get a cobalt/carbide bit to drill it out. You may need to drill and tap or do a helicoil or something.
 
Yea, thats what i was afaraid of (and to do!) How much would it cost do you estimate if i were to bring it in to a dealer to get the two removed?
 
No idea, but a cobalt bit will cost you about $5 at the hardware store. Just be sure to drill straight or you're in for a world of trouble.
 
Ok, so suppose i get the bit and drill a hole through? Then what? I was thinking about pounding a touques bit in and then putting an air powerered impact wrench on it.. or mabey buy another head on ebay? I'm still courious how much a dealer would charge?
 
Forget the dealer, most won't even touch it, and if they do they'll charge you about $50+ an hour, trust me it gets expensive. Call up some local machine shops and ask them. Make sure you tell them it's on a bike, and that it's going into aluminum. My nephew had two exhaust bolts break off flush and the local machine shop charged him $50 to remove both, without removing the engine.
 
I had a problem with my bolt holes in the cam cover being stripped out. Nerobro found a local shop that does car engine work and speed mods for "stock car" racers(read short dirt ovals). That guy did two of em for me for 26$... and did a damn fair better job than I would have done.
 
Ok, I got the one on the left side (sitting on the bike) out and now i got the one on the right to deal with. i drilled it out so that there is barely any bolt left on the inside. I drilled all the way through and sprayed penetrating oil inside. also I pounded a torques bit in and tryed to spin it, but no luck, it just spun inside the bolt. Any ideas on what to do next? :confused:

any replys are appreciated

If the hole you drilled is centered in the nub of the old bolt you can try going to the next size drill and and then the next. Eventually you will wind up with just the outer shell of the old bolt stuck in there. Once you get to this point the pieces usually come free with help of a pick or maybe a tap. Keep at it but stay off the metal in the head or you are in a world of hurt.
